  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm running pwm. I have an xterm in "wild mode" (no window decorations) at +0+0 on my first desktop. It's set to 34-point Lucida Typewriter, which gives me an 80x30 window which nearly exactly fills the 1600x1200 screen. My second desktop has a single "frame" (think of it as like a window, sorta) containing multiple Mozilla windows which I can switch between using tabs. (Browser feature, not the annoying "tabbed browsing" thing.) Desktop #3 is for Angband, and desktop #4 is for Acrobat or other apps like it.

I would love to have a good way to do this under Windows, which I am occasionally forced to use for hours at a time.

FWIW, I run NetBSD.

Yep, I meant 3D, hehe

Can't very well play UT without 3D acceleration (well technically you could; but it wouldn't be a pretty sight)

I have RH 8.0 which just has best of all worlds and suits me gaming needs
BTW, with the 2d and 3d hardware accelerations, there is a boost in dvd playback in the 3d hardware area, i saw something on it but i forgot what it was.
And if something doesn't have a *nix binary, try out WineX.

Litestep is a shell replacement for Windows that allows you to set up virtual desktops. So you have a Windows kernel and a shell like Afterstep for *nix. Totally customizable menus, taskbars, hot keys, mouse movements, etc.

On my windows system you can switch desktops by putting the mouse into the corner of the screen.

I tried Litestep awhile back, but it was a pain in the butt to configure, and froze up a lot. I didn't see the appeal.
