I was pretty surprised to find out that many Baptists, leaders in evangelism and missions were post mil.
That surprises me, too. I thought it has been abandoned for the most part. I know Bahnsen held to the view, hence his view on reconstructionism/theonomy. But I've never really given it much consideration. I've been considering looking into it, too.

I have read and been told that Post Mil and Amil are birds of a feather, one is optimistic and the other pessimistic.

It's hard to be optimistic when you see society crumbling before your eyes.

Then again, perhaps it's just how God planned it and the Church triumphant will emerge from the ashes, refined.

Society has always been crumbling old chap. Hope for this world is like hoping for a pile of ashes to stay on a picnic table on a windy day.

Haha yeah. I think that's just our perception as our world gets smaller and everything is instant with the interwebz. You spend any time online and you are bombarded with instant news of every bad thing that is happening in the world.
True. It could just be my perception, considering the speed of information these days.

I recall some old Scottish fella saying that Post Mil is about the power of the Kingdom, not a utopia, it's about the worldwide calling of God's elect from all nations. I think he meant the Kingdom will not result in an earthly utopia but a world filled with saints from all nations.

Bahnsen wrote a book on the view, though I have a copy, I've yet to read it, partially because eschatology isn't a point of emphasis for me, or maybe I should say I prefer to focus on the Solas, Doctrines of Grace, Soteriology, Bibliology, Theology Proper, and Christology.

I've not done much research, but it has to give us pause, when a giant of the faith like Dr. Bahnsen held the view. If he was wrong, I'd be humbled to hold a different view supposing it's the right view.

Let me put it this way; does the world seem to be getting better to you?

Not to me, but my vision of the world is so limited, I really couldn't go with my vision of it. Just sayin'

Has there been any time in history, including the short lived revivals, that the world has gotten better?

Well, it's a difficult question, at least to me. Speaking for the United States only, with what little history I've retained and gained, in many ways this part of the world has improved (great deal of good has come through advancements in technology)...but personally from my limited vision, I cannot help but see an overall decline, especially when it comes to tolerance for truth and Christian morality in general. All I know for certain is, the Lord Jesus is coming back, and doing much house cleaning by way of wrath.

I have little interest in eschatology as well. I am a Panmillinialist. I believe it will all pan out in the end.

I'm interested in what the Book has to say and the Book has a lot in between the covers about eschatology. Yes it is about Christ from Genesis to Revelation and Jesus Christ will bring about the final eschaton.

I'm too dense to place what I believe into a perfect scheme so I often float between the main views.

Eschatology is important, since God talks about it in the Bible. Does it affect communion between believers? Usually not (at least in most cases, it shouldn't). But there are some things that are necessary as a test of fellowship. For instance, a physical resurrection from the dead (since our resurrection mirrors Jesus' resurrection). Christ coming again to judge the living and the dead...etc.

There may be other tests which might affect fellowship, but I try to be somewhat gracious on the topic of eschatology, because frankly, I need others to be gracious to me on the subject (since I don't have it figured out). However, if an eschatological viewpoint implies and contradiction with certain other non-negotiable aspects of our systematic theology such as soteriology or theology proper, etc, then in my opinion that particular viewpoint could also become an appropriate test of fellowship.
