CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Pornography doesnt exploit.

Pornography doesn't exploit people, people exploit people.

Do some producers of porn take advantage of others? Or exploit a person's addiction? Sure. But just as a guy running a maid service who exploits immigrant workers does not make maid services an exploitative industry, that lowlife porn producer doesn't make all of porn exploitative.

Earlier, someone in the thread mentioned how pornography ruins God's gift of sex. I assume that means monogamous sex within a marriage. So what if a married couple performs together in a porn film? Is that exploiting them? What if they film it themselves, so their is no director or cameraman or anything? Is that exploiting them? If a married couple decide together, with full consent, to film themselves, and then also decide together to release that film for others to view, how can they be said to have been exploited?

If a married couple tapes themselves for others to see, yes that exploits them. If they decide to sell the film then that goes against what God has saidl...just because someone is married doesnt mean they are christian obviously...which could make them sell it..some people are like that.

It depends what age we're talking about. 'Children' seems to imply pre-pubescent, in which case no. Older children I wouldn't be as bothered about. Either way, there are plenty of religious sites, including Christian ones, I would be more concerned that they avoid. And there are certain parts of the Bible I would feel more of an obligation to protect them from than most, if not all, pornographic magazines.

If you dont think its exploitive then why should you care if they watched it!? Its exploitive!

Because there is a danger that it will lead to an unhealthy and unrealistic understanding of sex and sexuality. Exposure to any explicit sexual expression for children of a young age is not appropriate, not because it may be exploitative, but because children of that age are not yet sexually and psychologically mature enough to deal with it.

You should care. But thats besides the point. It seems that NO ONE should watch look at porn, people who look at porn arent mature. Sorry, but matuity comes from self-control. Obviously porn isnt self-control....its dirty and it puts a lose on self-control...saying "you gotta have it" or do it with anyone....

What can be done to help people get free from this bondage? What does the Bible offer as hope to those ensnared in sin?
God has called the church to be the answer to the problems facing those addicted to pornography. God hates this sin, but He loves the sinner and wants to set them free. Many marriages are being destroyed by this evil, as after the addiction of pornography has set in, then the normal marital relationship with their spouses is no longer satisfying. Many husbands then want their wives to partake in bizarre sexual behavior with them or use sexual toys as stimulants. Some couples even watch erotic videos together to arouse each other before they engage in sex. These abnormal approaches to what God intended to be a wonderful relationship, defiles them. Instead of finding satisfaction... guilt, shame, and dissatisfaction set in. True love and intimate sharing is replaced with raw lust. What God meant to be the most beautiful experience between two people becomes a hellish depravity. God can, and will restore this relationship if they will call on Him. Assuming the entertainment company they do business with it transparent and not sketchy, I think a lot of times the question of exploitation depends on the actress (or actor) and how he or she views herself, views her physical body, and views her work. If she feels her work is rewarding and she is fulfilling society's needs, then hey good for her and good for all the people that enjoy her work. If the actress/actor has crippling self-esteem and body image issues, then the producers of the porn are in a moral gray area in employing them.

Serial sexual predators feed off this garbage to keep the pumps primed between victims. Those in the industry and their other customers can bury their heads in the sand and claim misuse by these guys, but the reality is that if porn didn't exist, we would have a much smaller problem in this area. Try to justify porn and claim nobody is exploited to the little girls that have been raped and even murdered so that John Q. Public can have his "adult entertainment".

It is also not an addiction for most people...why is that not OK? Many people do not feel guilt about viewing pornography. That, in my opinion, is a healthier attitude.

Over in the so-called 'recovery' forums are many people (males, in particular) who seem to be going through an awful lot of trouble with pornography. For some it doesn't actually seem to be porn that is harming them. Rather, it is the fact that they have a whole forum dedicated to entertaining their absurd and unhealthy notion that there is something wrong with them looking at porn. That is extremely harmful.

You seem to completely fail to distinguish between viewing pornography and being addicted to pornography. There is a big difference, as there is between drinking alcohol and being an alcoholic.

That people have a sex drive is not immature. That they have no un-natural, un-healthy and immoral puritanical outlook doesn't make them immature either.

My wife and I watch porn together. It's part of foreplay to increase arousal, no different than kissing or touching. It's a benefit to our marriage, not an interference. Our lust is still for each other.
