'ello,

I guess this is a quesiton for catholics, if there are any out there.

So there's this story about the pope talking about the internet. The dude before he comes out says ~"Now is the time for transparency, accountability, and whatnot". Cause, you know, a bunch of people covered up priests diddling boys.

Then the actual pope comes out and says some stuff about the internet. That it's dangerous for getting cultures to mix between national borders and within borders. Now, due to the timing, the article points out that the Pope doesn't like the internet bringing these things to light.

So slashdot links this article and the message becomes "Pope hates the internet and transparency". Huh?

So anyone care to shed some transparency over the internet and explain what the pope and his guys actually mean to say?

There doesn't appear to be enough detail there to form any opinion on what +Benedict is saying on that. It looks like the reporter is trying to draw a conclusion from a statement that simply does not have the detail to do that and isn't addressing that particular quesiton anyway.

It might surprise you to know, but not all Catholics have a personal hot-line to Benedict XVI.

As I said, the overwhelming consensus of [academic] historical and biblical scholarship says the NT was written entirely or almost entirely in Greek. That's real historians, not fringe groups with an agenda or church dogmatics.
