I'm a professional hit man. I want the priest to bless me when I go off on a job. He thinks my profession is not very nice.Maybe it is their sin is nicer than your sin
Of course he is. He thinks the sin of a homosexual couple is nicer than the sin of an incestuous couple, and so we can bless the first couple but not the second. Francis' pet sins have to do with the environment, intolerance, rigidity, and traditionalism. His values align perfectly with modern secular liberalism. Francis' party line is that of the western, bourgeois, elite class, to which he belongs.Apparently, Francis is not part of the "my sin is nicer than your sin" congregation.
Show us that.Of course he is. He thinks the sin of a homosexual couple is nicer than the sin of an incestuous couple,
Libertarian, actually. But it's humorous that the far right assumes anyone capable of thinking for himself has to be "progressive."It's actually a bit humorous that progressives such as yourself
I think this reflects a confusion as to what the blessing is. Blessing sinners is something Jesus did frequently. Blessing their sins is not something He ever did. Francis just considers active homosexuals as sinners like the rest of us, who may be blessed, even if he condemns their sins.I'm a professional hit man. I want the priest to bless me when I go off on a job. He thinks my profession is not very nice.
They want a distinct blessing due to their distinct sin. I do not think anyone here is complaining about a general blessing. Not everyone is generally a same sex couple.I think this reflects a confusion as to what the blessing is. Blessing sinners is something Jesus did frequently. Blessing their sins is not something He ever did. Francis just considers active homosexuals as sinners like the rest of us, who may be blessed, even if he condemns their sins.
I'm not asking for a blessing for killing anyone. I'm asking for a blessing as a sinner who is trying to do a good job in my profession as a hit man. You can condemn the sin of killing someone and I fully understand not being able to bless that. But you should still bless me in the profession of hit man.I think this reflects a confusion as to what the blessing is. Blessing sinners is something Jesus did frequently. Blessing their sins is not something He ever did. Francis just considers active homosexuals as sinners like the rest of us, who may be blessed, even if he condemns their sins.
Right, we should bless the hit man without blessing his sin. It is the "sharp-shooter blessing," aimed at very minute aspects of a person's being while avoiding other, more obvious, aspects. To fail to bless the hit man would surely be, “narcissistic,” “authoritarian,” and “elitist.” We can't reduce blessings to sacramental realities and thus subject the hit man to "too many moral prerequisites"!I'm not asking for a blessing for killing anyone. Which is what The Church will not do. It will bless you as a sinner, but not your profession, just as The Church will bless a homosexual but not his sexual behavior. I think we almost have it here. But you should still bless me in the profession of hit man.
In 2021 priests couldn't bless same-sex relationships. Now they can. The only difference is a distinction between blessing the good parts of the relationship and the bad parts of the relationship. The priest is encouraged to be ignorant or else act with ignorance regarding the actual state of that which is to be blessed, and to go ahead and offer a blessing.Which is what The Church will not do. It will bless you as a sinner, but not your profession, just as The Church will bless a homosexual but not his sexual behavior.
What does quoting the Catechism of the Catholic Church on the topic of homosexuality have to do with me asking for and getting a blessing that I do a good job in my profession? I think it is more that pope Francis does not like hit men. He has said so a few times. I'm feeling very left out, at the peripheries, and am longing to be affirmed in my attempts to be the best hit man I can be. You need to separate being a good and effective hit man, which should be blessable in any fair Church, from the occasional act of killing someone.Which is what The Church will not do. It will bless you as a sinner, but not your profession, just as The Church will bless a homosexual but not his sexual behavior. I think we almost have it here.
The official position:
2357 Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity,141 tradition has always declared that "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered."142 They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.
2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God's will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord's Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.
2359 Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection.
Amen! We are ALL called to repentance of our sins. Period.I'm a professional hit man. I want the priest to bless me when I go off on a job. He thinks my profession is not very nice.
My concubine and I want the priest to bless us but my wife is so intolerant and complains to the priest about us. It upsets my concubine who really does want to invite her mother to our blessing.
Homosexuals can be absolved from their sins if they repent. And no priest has any authority to bless sin. That itself is a sin. Period. If the blessing is of the sodomitic relationship as opposed to something like Holy Unction for recovery from an illness or hearing a confession of sodomy and pronouncing absolution, I think it would be sinful and it also potentially runs into Galatians 1:8-9 territory.
I have now taken on a partner in my hit man business. Never mind my partner's particular sexuality. My partner has excellent skills and our collaboration looks like it will be fruitful. I am seeking a new blessing from the Church to bless our collaboration. I'm not asking the Church to bless us killing anyone, just our collaboration as hit men. We want to be accompanied in what has drawn us together. It doesn't have to be at the altar and we wouldn't be wearing anything special and it could just be a ten or fifteen second informal thing. But we do want it photographed so our illustrious client's get the message that our collaboration is a serious thing.Right, we should bless the hit man without blessing his sin. It is the "sharp-shooter blessing," aimed at very minute aspects of a person's being while avoiding other, more obvious, aspects. To fail to bless the hit man would surely be, “narcissistic,” “authoritarian,” and “elitist.” We can't reduce blessings to sacramental realities and thus subject the hit man to "too many moral prerequisites"!
Clearly we need to start blessing the hit men, the incestuous couples, the racist lynch-mobs, the neo-nazis, and--dare I say it--those who would deforest the rainforests! We can bless them even in the context of their sin, so long as a "sharp-shooter blessing" is utilized. I will consult the Harry Potter specialists to learn what sort of wand is required for these sharp-shooting, non-liturgical, non-judgmental blessings.
Still can't. But they can bless the people in them. Love the sinner; hate the sin.In 2021 priests couldn't bless same-sex relationships.
Just as the Church can bless people in same-sex relationships but not the relationship, so they can bless your partner, but not what he does in your partnership.I have now taken on a partner in my hit man business. Never mind my partner's particular sexuality. My partner has excellent skills and our collaboration looks like it will be fruitful. I am seeking a new blessing from the Church to bless our collaboration.
Correct. They are sinners like the rest of us. Well maybe some people are without sin, and are special in that way. Two such people are so identified in scripture, but I don't know that any other humans were like that. Homosexuals have a greater cross to bear than most of us and are called to a life of chastity. The Church rightly denounces any unjust discrimination against them.Homosexuals need to repent of their sin and live a life of chasity if they want to go to heaven when they die. They are NOT "special" in any way, shape, or form.
