  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I feel like a lot of people who have never had schizophrenia or never been to college to be a psychiatrist, are giving terrible medical advice on schizophrenia. I won't name names.

I imagine that most people who are schizophrenics on this forum have been seeking proper medical treatment and just want love and a sounding board when they post instead of people forcing medical advice on them, who aren't even qualified to do so. Save the recommendations for real emergencies, not for when people want a sounding board.

Luckily, I found out my psychiatrist was actually a devout Christian, and either way, he has been part of the solution lately instead of part of the problem.

I'm still on medicine, but I'm focusing on the Holy Spirit as my main drug right now, because it's what I need.

In the future, when people rebuke me for my schizophrenia or for other reasons, I have decided that I will just post Toby Mac music videos. I will not let people bully me on this forum anymore, at all, whether it's in Christian Advice, this thread, or anywhere. Doesn't even matter if they consider themselves my friend. I'm going to start making a stand, and I absolutely won't take no for an answer.

May I ask, how do you know or recognise when your schizophrenia is affecting you/getting out of control?
The follow up question, what do you then do or what should a concerned friend do?
I'm used to diabetic friends needing a reminder to eat something sweet and having to check that they have, fortunetly it is rare that an ambulance has to be called.
So I'm curious how you would react to a comment from a friend about your persived behaviour.

The only time I want to be rebuked is when I'm acting dangerously, which I never really have, or when I'm not following the Bible. Simple as that.

All other things will fall into place.

With diabetics it is easy, they start acting out of character or as if drunk. The hardpart can be getting them to eat a buiscuit or have a sweet drink.
My knowledge of schizophrenia is from the papers, inaccurate!
How would I, if I was working with you/living in your street, know when you are starting to act dangerously?

If I start talking about cutting or saying "I'd really like to slash that guys tires", which I never really have before... chances are it's the mental illness talking.

I'm not sure what you were referring to in the #1 post as "advice" and I haven't seen any posts here about Schizophrenia myself. It's an interesting point you make though

In general can see there is a difference between opinion and advice, and it's easy to confuse the two.

Of course a trained professional's advice can not be substituted by a non-professionals advice legally, however some peoples experiences as Christians that have suffered the illness may help sufferers to consider the aspects of the illness relative to spirituality and Christianity that the so-called professionals may have no understanding of.

In those cases they are probably best to remind they are not attempting to give advice so nobody is confused, and importantly as sufferers are prone to confusion.

Thank you for educating me.
