There are certain times when the fetus is (a) not viable, and (b) endangering its mother's life. It may be that this should not be considered an "abortion" but rather a life-saving surgical procedure.
When the baby is endangering its mother's life that makes the situation a bit more complicated because often the child has a very low chance of survival as well.

If it happened again, and I knew before the rupture occured...I would refuse to have the surgery. I would pray for a miracle, and if I didn't receive one, well...I wouldn't bleed to death before I could get to a hospital.

But what are the frequencies of this actually happening?
With medical science as advanced as it is today - certainly this situation is less frequent than 10 -20 years ago. Geesh, their doing surgery on babies in the womb to repair heart problems before the child is even born.
If this is possible, cetainly our fine medical professionals can find a way to save mother and child without there being such a drastic decision to be made.

What really makes me frustrated is the people who have the nerve to demand a health of the mother clause in a partial birth abortion ban. If one is doing a partial birth abortion, it is obviously possible to deliver the child without any harm to the mother.

Interesting to think that Catholicism (to some the bastion of evil) can be such an outspoken advocate for the pro-life movement. By their fruits they shall be known?

The thing about ectopic pregnancies is that often the baby is dead when the "abortion" is performed (so I'm not sure that can really be called an "abortion").
