I don't think you can over use imagination. Now the same image has been given to Elves all to much, but Elves in general, no.

Well, considering every fantasy book I've read in the past two years has an elf in it, I'd have to say, yes, elves are overused. Not that that is a bad thing, I like elves!

i don't know since i don't like reading stories with elves... so most of the fantasy books i read don't have elves in them.

They are overused, but I like Elves, so I do not have a problem with it.

I dislike elves, personally. I think they are all a bunch of pansies, and dont know why everyone thinks they are so frikin cool. Thats as a group though. Individual ones, if done well, can be interesting, perhas even cool.

i suppose by overusing, people mean the defined characteristics of elves.

They are always on the good side, they can't age, they are beautiful and they are wise....

it was a pleasure reading The Dragon Lance, for it defied all those characteristics.

As much as I think the Elves in Lord of the Rings kick butt, nowadays they are used way too much. Almost every fantasy/sci fi book I look at has an elf of some sort. Can't authors make up some new characters or just relieve the elves of the overuse?
