Just listened to most of Gov. DeSantis' message to Florida residents about preparing for Hurricane Milton. He managed to talk for at least fifteen minutes, thanking Publix, WalMart and other companies, saying that they had received $63 million in donations after Helene, and not mentioning the federal government at all.

As he continues to perpetuate this fantasy, let's remember that he refused to accept a call from VP Harris the day before.

For the truth about what the U.S. is doing in disaster relief for Hurricanes Helene and Milton, visit

It's disgraceful that Republicans are spreading disinformation and frightening residents who fear help won't be there when they need it.

The fact that DeSantis is not extending the deadline for registering to vote shows where his priorities are. Ugh.

We have many close relative in Florida, and my husband's whole family is in the Tampa to Clearwater area. We are praying for the people, as I'm sure you are.

It upsets me to see these disasters exploited for political purposes.

Is refusing to extend the registration deadline "putting people before politics," considering that most of the new registrants (statistically) and Gen Z and other demographics friendly to Democrats, and that Democrats are holding registration drives in traditionally underrepresented areas?

He is more concerned about their physical health and well being than voting.

If he put voting as a major concern. Like is being done in this thread. THAT would be politicizing and putting politics before people.

Extending a registration deadline requires his signature. An announcement.

A minute of his time.

Family members who live there suffered when he went rogue on COVID. and now he refuses to act in a responsible bipartisan manner, going rogue again.

Biden undermines Harris claim that Ron DeSantis is politicizing hurricane response: 'Doing a great job'

No doubt after the hurricane hits if DeSantis needs help from FEMA he will ask for it (from the President-Biden)

The fact that DeSantis is not extending the deadline for registering to vote shows where his priorities are. Ugh.
If needed ... no doubt he will put things in place so people can vote properly.

Florida offers online voter registration. The deadline to register was Oct. 7th.

I didn't realize you would be upset over Republicans criticizing FEMA for spending disaster money on illegals. As a Catholic I would have though that what would upset you is abortion and transgender issues of the Democratic party. Oh, well. I'm surprised every day.

Not acknowledging the support of the federal government while explicitly praising private enterprise?
You think that is a nonpartisan move?

Wow, that’s one I haven’t heard in a while.
Human people would be SHOCKED at how often I reference that show in my day to day life.

Human people would feel more relaxed to know that nobody under the age of 42 ever has ANY idea what the heck i'm even talking about.

He has repeatedly acknowledged the support of the federal government - said he has been speaking with the President daily.

Just not Harris -

Don't believe me? Listen to Biden's own words:

If MAGA types believe Trump and stay behind and DIE - that's on him!
It's just an outrageous lie that FEMA spent "Billions on immigrants".
What is wrong with the man? I know he has been diagnosed with Malignant Narcissism - but isn't this a bit much even for him?

Now the lies come home to roost.
REPUBLICAN representatives from affected areas are TERRIFIED at what Trump's lies might do to their standing with their constituents. As in - people might die if they believe Trump. (As they did during the pandemic when he pushed all kinds of anti-science, anti-vaccination, anti-mask memes.)
As in - they've pushed COUNTLESS crazy myths for him before - but now enough is enough.
It's time to try and tell the truth.
But it's too late. These Republican officials can't get heard.
Trump said it, that settles it! These Republican officials are pushing back against the sheer overwhelming gravity of Trump's Lying Industrial Complex!
How many people will this latest lie kill as Milton sweeps in?
Oh what a tangled web we weave, when we first start to deceive.

Disinformation: Unless you can link to a direct quote in context from President Trump
It's just an outrageous lie that FEMA spent "Billions on immigrants".
Disinformation:

Feds say there’s no money left to respond to hurricanes — after FEMA spent $1.4B on migrants

WASHINGTON — Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas set off outrage Wednesday when he told reporters that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) “does not have the funds” to see Americans through the rest of this Atlantic hurricane season — after the agency spent more than $1.4 billion since the fall of 2022 to address the migrant crisis.
“We are meeting the immediate needs with the money that we have,” Mayorkas said during a press gaggle on Air Force One en route to tour damage from Hurricane Helene in South and North Carolina.
“We are expecting another hurricane hitting,” he added. “We do not have the funds. FEMA does not have the funds to make it through the season and what — what is imminent.”
What is wrong with the man? I know he has been diagnosed with Malignant Narcissism - but isn't this a bit much even for him?
Disinformation: Unless you can link the doctor who examined him and made the diagnosis.
Disinformation - unless you have a link stating so (not from a left website or media wonk)
As in - they've pushed COUNTLESS crazy myths for him before - but now enough is enough.
Disinformation: most of the 'myths' are actively promoted by the left and are typically exaggerations, misquote or partial quotes of what was actually said - like the 'good folks on both sides' disinformation talking point. Believe it or not - there are actually people who still believe it, even after seven years of being presented with President Trump's actual words. Go figure.
It's time to try and tell the truth.
But it's too late. These Republican officials can't get heard.
Disinformation - that is an opinion based on a bias - reality shows them very vocal, both on media who bother to report, public new briefs and roundtables etc.
Trump said it, that settles it! These Republican officials are pushing back against the sheer overwhelming gravity of Trump's Lying Industrial Complex!
Disinformation - this level of extreme bias is no longer being bought by the public - we are just too informed to believe it anymore IMHO

Disinformation: Unless you can link to a direct quote in context from President Trump

Watch the videos of his recent rallies documented below. It. Happened. Multiple. Times.
Don't try and deny he said the thing. The. Thing. Happened. From Austin American Statesman.

Statement: The Biden administration stole $1 billion “from FEMA to use it for illegal migrants. … And FEMA is now busted. They don’t have any money.”
As he arrived in Augusta, Georgia, to survey Hurricane Helene’s devastation, former President Donald Trump said the Biden-Harris administration’s spending on immigrants has left the Federal Emergency Management Agency broke.
"Well, for one thing, $1 billion was stolen from FEMA to use it for illegal migrants," Trump said Oct. 4. He added, "And FEMA is now busted. They don’t have any money."
He continued, "FEMA has not done the job, meaning the federal government, Kamala and Joe, have not done the job obviously. They have $1 billion, $1 billion with a 'B,' missing that's supposed to be used for hurricanes and things like that and they don't have any money."
Trump used his visit to the hurricane-ravaged battleground state as an opportunity to attack his opponent, Kamala Harris, and argue that she cares more about immigrants in the U.S. illegally than Americans.
He has repeated versions of that claim since Oct. 3.
  • "Kamala spent all her FEMA money, billions of dollars, on housing for illegal migrants, many of whom should not be in our country," he said at an Oct. 3 campaign rally in Saginaw, Michigan.
  • "We’re missing $1 billion that they gave to migrants coming into our country," he said in an Oct. 4 town hall in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
  • "The GREAT people of North Carolina are being stood up by Harris and Biden, who are giving almost all of the FEMA money to Illegal Migrants," he wrote Oct. 7 on Truth Social. He added: "NORTH CAROLINA HAS BEEN VIRTUALLY ABANDONED BY KAMALA!!!"
Here are the facts: Current FEMA funding for migrants does not come at disaster relief’s expense. Neither of FEMA’s two programs for migrants uses money from the agency’s Disaster Relief Fund, which is primarily used after natural disasters. Congress funds the migrant and disaster relief programs separately. And Trump’s administration, not Biden’s, shifted FEMA funding — including money from the Disaster Relief Fund — to address immigration.
When contacted for comment, the Trump campaign pointed to spending by FEMA’s Shelter and Services Program, which gives money to state and local governments and nonprofit organizations that provide migrants with temporary shelter, food and transportation. Trump arrived at the $1 billion figure by combining the fiscal year 2023 and 2024 budgets for the Shelter and Services Program.
"FEMA has been spending hundreds of millions of dollars on the transportation and shelter of illegal immigrants," Trump campaign spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said.
That’s different from Trump’s claims, which distort the facts.
FEMA’s rumor response website says no money from the Disaster Relief Fund was diverted for immigration. The White House issued a similar statement.

No money ‘stolen’ at FEMA, agency not out of money

It’s inaccurate to describe the $1 billion as "stolen," said Joshua Sewell, a federal budget expert at the nonpartisan Taxpayers for Common Sense.
Congress — not the president — decides how much money government programs receive. The Biden-Harris administration requested the money from Congress, and Congress granted it to FEMA for the Shelter and Services program.
"It’s definitely not stealing," Sewell said. "It is in an appropriations bill."
FEMA is expected to face a deficit during the current fiscal year that started Oct. 1, but the agency is not out of money. And Congress can set aside more money, as it has done nearly every year since 2017, Sewell said.

And NBC, and BBC Fact Check (who point out it was TRUMP who did this trick in 2019 - but only $38m). But the Homeland money going through FEMA via the Shelter and Services program has NOTHING to do with the FEMA Disaster Relief Fund. FEMA DRF is fine, thank you very much. It's just the facts! Donald don't do de data - he do de lie. CNN, Washington Post!, The Guardian, FEMA THEMSELVES, NPR, Forbes, all report the same thing. Dear Donald did dat.

Great work Governor, you are doing an amazing job putting the health and safety of your people before politics.
Fox is not a news source, but agitation propaganda for Donald.

Fox denies the peer-reviewed established fact of climate change, and basically echoes any of Trump’s lies. Until it gets legal. Until the COURTS are forced to step in and ‘adjudicate reality’ in this post-truth era of Fox News. I’m so sad that Americans actually watch Fox and accept it as ‘reality’. Journalists I respect hold them partly responsible for America’s breakdown of trust in institutions. EG: How many American Republicans still “just believe” - despite the evidence of countless court cases and inquiries - that the 2020 election was rigged? How many (especially white evangelicals) are sceptical of climate change because of Trump and Fox? Fox found their ratings went up when they just repeated Trump’s lies - and married themselves to him to increase their ratings. I’m amazed they’re STILL repeating his lies - as they lost a court case over it - big time!

They just repeated Trump’s lies that Dominion voting machines were rigged against him in 2020. Dominion took Fox to court. Rather than have the whole sorry affair and all those sordid details broadcast, Rupert Murdoch settled. If there was ANY chance Fox had ANY grounds for reporting what they reported at the time - any CREDIBLE information at all - that might have led them to believe - even incorrectly - that Dominion had run some scam - do you think Murdoch would have paid that kind of money? Instead he would have argued the case that they were doing due diligence with the information they had at the time. That when they found out later they were incorrect - they offered a public correction.

Except none of this was the case. VP's knew the story was mad at the time (see link below) - but went with it anyway. And repeated it. And repeated it. And repeated Trump saying it without fact checking him - a known liar!?

Rupert paid a settlement of $787.5 million rather than claim his innocence and push forward. He knew they’d lose. He acknowledged the FACTS - and said “he believed the 2020 election was fair and had not been stolen from Trump.” https://apnews.com/article/fox-news...l-trump-2020-0ac71f75acfacc52ea80b3e747fb0afe

$787.5 million dollars is a BILLION Australian Dollars. That’s one enormous ‘hush money’ pay-out!

Hurricane season doesn't end today. More hurricanes are possible and the spending to fix the problems caused by these two hurricanes in the last month (Helene and Milton) is just beginning. I heard from the FEMA Administrator that they have already spent or allocated $9B on those two storms. It's hard to say when the FY25 $20 B will run out, but it will be long before next September (the end of the FY). It could even be late this year.
