  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The deaths in the Washington airline crash are a tragedy in the true sense of the word. What people need in times like this are sympathy, understanding and a commitment to finding out the the cause. What nobody wants and what nobody should expect, is anyone trying to make politcal capital out of so many deaths. Well, I say we shouldn't expect it, but that's not really correct, is it. These days it's exactly what we do expect. From here: After a moment of silence, Trump instantly pivots to anger

'The president of the United States unleashed a blizzard of accusations, quickly suggesting blame for the collision.

"We do not know what led to this crash," he admitted, "but we have some very strong opinions and ideas, and I think we'll probably state those opinions now."

His strongest opinion? That progressive policies had allowed incompetent people into critical jobs.

He mocked the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for its "diversity push", claiming the agency was too focused on inclusion and wanted people with severe disabilities to become air traffic controllers.'

What I also should not expect is anyone trying to excuse this garbage. But again, we live in different times.

Before some chime in and point out that there are also folks who are blaming Trump for the accident, which is also politicizing a tragedy, I'd like to point out that sure, it is, but that doesn't excuse Trump's comments. It just means there are more bad comments to criticize.

Anyone who is politicising it is contemptible. Period.

The touching way that Trump and others blamed Governor Newsom, Mayor Bass and the people of California while the fires were 0% contained will stick with me forever. Not that it's anything new.

A new programme was established in 2019, during Trump's first term in office, seeking to give people with disabilities a pathway to work in air traffic operations.

An FAA press release at the time said the aim was to "help prepare people with disabilities for careers in air traffic operations" and that up to 20 people would train for up to one year at a number of air traffic control centres.

It also emphasised that "candidates in this program will receive the same rigorous consideration in terms of aptitude, medical and security qualifications as those individuals considered for a standard public opening for air traffic controller jobs".
