Hey Pheobe, one of the guys in my office is going home for the Iowa State Fair later this week, right? (They tell me when they are taking vacation but I never remember! ) We have a lot of folks from Iowa where I work. This guy is an Iowa State grad, originally from a farm near Dryersville.

You asked in an earlier post where I lived in Iowa...8.5 years in one of the state's less enchanting areas, Fort Dodge. I think God had me live there so that I could love living anywhere else in the world He put me! I had a great job but absolutely HATED living there. It was a great place to raise a family though and the kids got to go to Lutheran school.

We were, but looks like Adam's working the next 3 out of 4 weekends (he started at the new store yesterday). I have my neice's birthday party this weekend, we are supposed to be helping at the in-laws (they FINALLY broke ground) the next weekend - which is his only weekend off, and I'm donating my garage the weekend after that for a sorority garage sale - I'm kind of expected to be there and help too, you would think it woudl be enough that I'm letting them use the garage.

I'm sorry, I wanna go!!!

The good news in all this, is that when it finally settles down, his Friday schedule makes it easier to take off early to get away for the weekend. I can always arrange to get off early on Fridays once in a while - maybe we can come visit this Fall?

Hey I just got off the phone with my mom. Could you all please say a prayer for my cousin's son? John Russel was born this morning premature, and was having trouble breathing and was blue. He was airlifted to Children's here in St. Louis, and my cousin was discharged probably before she should have been to be with him. Sounds like he's breathing better and his skin is pink, but there is no telling whether he suffered brain damage. Thank you for your prayers.

O Lord in Heaven, Holy is your name. Your Kingdom come your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Lord, be with John Russel as he struggles to continue his life. Give him the strength and the will to live. Be also with his mother and give her emotional and physical strength to be there for her son. Help them to face this challenge together so that there may be future challeges to face together as well. Be with all the family and friends to give the mother support during this time of crisis.

Thank you sooooo much for your prayers - they were most definitely answered.

I'm laughing so hard, it's difficult to type. What they thought was a baby not breathing, was actually the little guy trying so hard to poop that he didn't think to breathe. Apparently in the helecoptor ride, he succeded in relieving himself, and by the time he got to Children's, he had his color back. Today, he was taken out of the incubator and off the heating pad, and he was just fine. He's just over 5 lbs and can control his body temperature, so he's being released tomorrow.

Praise God for having quite a sense of humor. Thank you again for your prayers.

Paul Speratus, Luther's co-worker who helped prepare the first Protestant hymnal, died (b. 1484, Rötlen, near Ellwangen, Germany). He was educated at various universities and was ordained in about 1506. He was active in Salzburg, Austria, and in Dinkelsbühl and Würzburg (both in Bavaria). He held evangelical views, got married and fled Würzburg. He was expelled from Salzburg, excommunicated at Ofen, Hungary, imprisoned at Iglau and condemned to death. He escaped on condition that he would leave Moravia. He then became the castle preacher at Königsberg and Lutheran bishop of Pomerania in 1530.
