  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hey pointe girls, How long has everyone in here been dancing? Ive been dancing for about 6 years, 2 on pointe, and I took a break this term for classes and work getting in the way =[ I'm hoping to join back into the company next term in August. I hope I didn't lose my place, I absolutely loved dancing! Tell me some stories or interesting stuff about your companies!

I've been dancing for 11 1/2 years and taucght ballett for 1 year after that....can't remember how many of those years I did pointe for but it must have been more than half (think we started when I was 11 - that would make it 7 1/2)...

had to stop now cause I don't have enough time while being at Uni :sigh: hardest desicion ever :(

but there's lots of good memories as well...like performing Swanlake in the Opera house  that was great...but really exhausting (was on stage most of the time and we had a modern part afterwards as well where I was in about nerally every bit as well...couldn't move afterwards :D )

hope you didn't loose your place

Started at 19, got to intermediate level, did some point work, but now I have a chronic tendinitis, and can't dance.
What interests me, is choreography, but my major is video. So hopefully soon, I'll be able to do choreography for video. A challenge, because it's not the same as choreography for stage.

Curious, what is "pointe"?

It's where ballerinas and dancers stand up on their tippy toes, but they're specific shoes for it. It's separate from ballet, kind of. You usually have to dance for several years before you get to be on pointe. Your ankles have to be strong enough to support and balance your entire body on one ankle. It's a gorgeous art, I love doing it. :tutu:

Here is a picture of what it looks like.

That's Polina Semionova, she's my favorite russian ballerina!

Here are what the shoes look like off your feet.

Your ankles have to be strong enough to support
I read a study that stressed the little known importance of also needing strong arches. I saw a test for seeing if you have enough strength: go "on point" without pointe shoes. (actually, on top of your toes that are curled in and scrunched.) If you can do it, you have enough strength in your arches.

Also, I'd like to remind all ye pointe dancers (or planning to be pointe dancers) how important it is to exercise and strengthen the muscle that pulls your big toe sideways away from the other toes, as a preventive measure for bunions. Also, binding your feet around the bones just above your toe is another preventive measure towards getting bunions.

And also, look at the wear and tear of the tips of your pointes, make sure that it isn't more worn out on the big toe, or on the bottom. It should be pretty much center/even. Too much wear on the big toe means you are on a highway to getting bunions, too much on the bottom means you are in danger of getting serious tendinitis.
