  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

max of 3 poems, eh?

Well, here's 3 from me:

Whisper
"whispers of life set aside just for you
so far away is the reality that holds me close
wounds are closed, yet scars remain
so much that will never be said
perhaps it was not as true as I once thought
this world is not what it seems
emptyness comes within large crowded spaces
reality is further away than we know
treating the scar cannot be done
an open hole is right behind
ready for us to fall into
impossible for us to close ourselves
pull me apart and rip me open
for you have already done it many times before
grant me something that lets me go away and live"

Rain on my soul
"gentle showers across the land
reminders of days that could be
soft, warm rain, removing all dryness
opening the possibilities of life
how far must it be until the next stop
only time will tell where it ends
a never ending thought
stretching through time
still under those perfect drops of rain"

Let it run
"bruised and battered
a torn apart heart
shaken and shattered
a sad work of art

unknown of what happened
mysterious change
uneasily forgotten
a difficult exchange

too much is said
right amounts not done
apart from the world
this heart runs its last run

not given is that
which this heart needs so much
a loving embrase
a warm gentle touch

in times such as these
long days do become
overwhelmingly laboured
vicariously glum

eventual breakdown
yearning for care
open to nothing
uneasy despair

miraculous healing
yes it can be done
as hope brings in light
soon pain is outrun

help of a stranger
love from a friend
easy forgiveness
your faith to never end"

This is a poem that doesn't rhyme, which I wrote awhile ago. I'm not much of a poet, but here it is anyway :

Dichotomy of Self

Passions run hot when the flesh is strong
The Spirit's voice is washed over in the flood
Our flesh is more strongly fed
Then we fall

Confession, repentance- we seek the Spirit's voice again
The cry of us all, when fallen to our wrong desires
Realizing that we have gone astray
We lift our heart and mind again to the Father

Set in right fellowship, we travel forth again
If kept strong in the Spirit, we will overcome
Yet the flesh rears its ugly head-
Then we fall again

The path of sanctification, so hard to walk
The roller-coaster of our lives we ride
Seeking to ride the heights, yet falling
The Lord can pull us from the depths

Time after time
When we fall
Time after time
He will restore

Alright, here's three.

"The Camel"

A camel demurely gallumphed
Across the scorching sand
And as the day wore on
He became to tired to stand.

He bent his knobby knees
And lowered his sleepy head
And then he heard a tiny sound
From beneath his makeshift bed.

He squinted his bloodshot eyes
As he looked for the cource of the noise
He'd been awakened from his slumber
And was starting to lose his poise

He spotted a helpless desert mouse
With head and tail so small
Who quickly explained that this was his bed
And he was sorry he'd come there at all

But he had a wife and ninety kids
Who were starving as he spoke
And he needed a large amount of food
Or they would all surely croak

He'd gone all over the desert
In search of nuts or meat
But all he'd found on his travels
Were dust and tired feet

And now he looked up with trusting eyes
And swished his tiny tail
And wiped a tear from he beady eye
And said with a mournful wail

"Oh sir would you help a mouse in need
With a crust of bread or two
I have so little time before
My trouble will be a slew"

So the camel bent down his crusty head
And opened his wizened eyes
And gave a twitch of his stringy tail
And started to realize

That this was too much trouble
And he wanted to go to bed
To lifting his cloven camel's hoof
He squashed the small mouse's head.

"Anthem"

So many people hate the thought
Of America at war
The thought of peace throughout the world
Is one we all adore
But sometimes peace can't be obtained
By turning the other cheek
We have to stand up for what we believe
While still remaining meek
America's full of power
In this we all take pride
So shouldn't we use it to help
Countries in need on the other side?
No matter what our opinion
We need to support our troops
To preserve the safety of all
Some must jump through the fiery hoop
So wave a flag, then proudly say,
I supported our troops today.
May America be free forever,
God bless the U.S.A.!

"My Name"

My name is quite a lot of things,
Like 'I Like Poems' and 'I Can Sing'.
I'd like to share these names with you,
So feel free to listen until I'm through.
When I'm sad, my name is 'Cry All Night'.
When I'm mad, it's 'Scream and Shout'.
When I'm really confused don't know what to do,
It's 'What Are You Talking About?'
When I'm happy, my name is 'Laugh and Joke'.
When annoyed, I'm 'Get Out Of My Face'.
When I can't find that book and it's due back today,
It's 'Throw Things All Over The Place'.
My name is a Flower,
My name is a Cloud.
My name is a Secret Wrapped Up In A Shroud.
But of all the things my name can be,
My name is most of all, simply, Me.

Hope you like them! :D

Some Things Are Made to Be Broken (But You Broke the Wrong Thing)
2.22.03 by Michael David Perkins

Here you are
You wear your goodness like a cheap suit
Watch TV for the bad stuff
Healthy diet of chocolates and sweets
Don’t stand so close, you might fall, you might fall

Falling hurts some, but you turn to see who’s watching
Hiding under the skin of advice and counsel
Behind the picket signs and the boy’s cot by the radio

Laugh when others burn
Laugh when others burn
Push, push, push
Maybe someday you’ll find perfection
Until then you’ll just have to settle for you.

Nice People in Nice Clothes
9.24.02 by Michael David Perkins

Help my mother move her sofa.
She’s fallen underneath the leg.
Beaten to a pulpit, again.
Lover socks it to her.
Happy hunting from here on out.
Beaten to a pulpit.
How embarrassing.

4.7.03 by Michael David Perkins

Humble beginnings have nothing on me,
The truest colors of spring could be
Not like the way I’ve seen your face
Under the grace of an unchosen race
My way to you was purchased in blood.

After all this death is gone and gone and gone and gone
Will I still be your love end all?
My nights are held in suspense of what I might lose from my dreams.

Fears are normal but you don’t approve
I feel a back-piercing glare once stood
Peering over my shoulder to my head and heart and spirit of eternal rest
I don’t approve but I’ll confide in someone, I guess.

After days and weeks of no return
Are you here to save me before I burn
My life for all it’s miserable worth
To try and buy back my old rebirth
From hands whose touch grows colder still
And whose conversation makes me ill
The way I once thought of you, my friend, but now I know.
Now, I know.
