• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Not talking about the physical symptoms....but is there anything out there that relieves the emotional symptoms of pms? Isn't it supposed to stop once you get your period? How come I feel worse and often the symptoms keep going? I've read that birth control pills may relieve the physical symptoms, but not the emotional/behavioral. I've never tried birth control pills so i don't know. Has anyone here had any success? I always dread my menstrual cycle since it has often been a trigger for a depressive episode. I never had these pms issues when i was younger, but now in my 40's, it's an issue every month. So exhausting.

Hello,

Sorry if I'm posting a bit late, been so busy not been around in the forums in awhile. I am on birth control (bc) and it does seem for me to help, it make the cycle less like 3 to 4 days instead of the full blown 5 to 7 days if that makes sense but I'm on an AD to for bed time and it helps me rest and pull out my depression as well.. I know a few birth controls arent good and few are not on the market due to issues but one I take I love it, had headaches for few days adjusting to it, then I am good to go been on for 3 months. So maybe talk to your GYN or Primary Dr who ever takes care of the "lady" stuff and discuss options or maybe both on board for best care in both areas I don't know. I hope you find relief soon best wishes...

There is a natural supplement that you might try before turning to Birth Control for a fix. It's called "Vitex" or "Chasteberry". Of course, you might want to check with you doctor first if you are taking any meds or have any hormonal imbalances.
I took it for awhile for PMS, and it actually did help tremendously with PMS (emotional symptoms). Also, a lot of women take it who are trying to get pregnanct to increase their fertility. I literally felt myself ovulating for about 3 days when I was taking it. I can't remember why I stopped taking it..
The medication I take now, for Bipolar Disorder, has helped with PMS emotional symptoms as well.
