  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So I was looking back at old threads I had made, and I came across a small rant (lol) I had made about plus sizes, and how society now treats women who are size 2 as plus sizes. No this isn't a dig at any skinny women, it's just a few thoughts I've been having. I'm fine with whatever weight I am at any point. Im realistic though and lately I've been trying to lose weight. Not to be like a model, but just because I've felt unhealthy and also side effects of not being healthy have kicked in (tiredness, achy, etc) and I felt I needed a change. But honestly, if you're the least bit in tune with tv or movies, magazines or whatever the case may be you can totally get down on yourself. I mean for example, I use to watch America's Next Top Model like every season, and Tyra was always like "I want to make girls feel special no matter what they look like, or what size they are" blah blah. I think she does, but what she doesn't realize is when she tells a girl who is a size 12 that she's "plus sized" that doesn't make her feel so special. Or to me it doesn't. I guess I don't really have a point to this thread. Just airing out a few ranty type thoughts and if any other females want to join in please do.

I thought maybe some people might have responded to this by now! It seemed like a popular enough topic in the Singles forum. Anyway, I noticed a lot of women were talking about having trouble finding clothes and dresses. Some of the places I would recommend are Ross (if you have one around) and Lane Bryant. Ross is inexpensive. Lane Bryant is kind of expensive, but will have clothes designed to fit in a flattering way. With Ross you have to kind of search for things and sometimes it is hit or miss with finding cute stuff, but I've found a lot of awesome stuff there back when I lived in FL. :sohappy:

I was a size 10 for years, and thought I was so fat!! I was miserable with who I was.

Now I am a size 18, but God has given me a love of who I am. I am much happier and more content with being a size 18 with God, than I was a size 10 without Him.

I guess this isn't much of an issue with me. But I do wish I could lose weight. I've never really noticed much discrimination, though I've felt irritation at very thin girls when they whine about not being able to gain weight.

I guess we all have our prejudices.

As soon as I saw the title, I thought of Tyra Banks calling a size 12 "plus size".

I think it's ridiculous to put a label like plus size to ANY size. Should we make anything size 4 and under a "minus size"? lol Seriously.

I've always been a size 10/12 and there was nothing "plus size" about me. I'm just a tall girl with an athletic/curvy frame. I refuse to be made to feel like that makes me fat or sub-standard somehow.

Exactly! I totally agree with you.
Like Ive always been content with who I am, and what I look like but I still can''t help feeling a twinge of irritation when Im singled out because Im not the size of a model. lol

The real problem is being petite and plus.

I'm just under 5'4" with short legs and short arms, but have a long and broad torso. If you were to judge my frame size by my wrist I'd end up being a medium frame but I have a whopping 38" rib cage, and that's without fat. My bust is 44". I bloat a lot, but when I lose the bloating my waist is still 35", and I can see my abs then. So I'm not really getting any smaller.

The problem is that plus size shirts hang too low at the bustline for me and the darts never fit my breasts properly. So the ones without darts are immodestly low cut for me and usually too big.

I'm a size that doesn't exist; I'd probably be something like a 0X. XL tends to pull at the bust, at least with button down shirts, and 1X is usually two inches too large in the bust as well as several inches too big in the waist.

And finding plus size jeans for a woman who is petite AND has no hips is an issue... I found them at Lane Bryant but I can't afford to pay $50 for a pair of jeans. My old pairs are too big now and I need to size down.

I gained 40 lbs when we moved to Alaska and went from a size 4/6 to a size 14/16. I hate it and I hate the way I look and I suppose I do have self esteem issues because of it. You won't catch me dead in a bathing suit right now for one. And I absolutely hate buying clothes for myself right now because I know that when I get home, they're not going to look good anyway. :(

If I could be big and still look like the models on the Just My Size website or ads, I don't think I'd feel this way but I've gained fat in some just ugly places, mainly in my belly area. It's just blech!

Tyra Banks, to be fair, is now calling them "real size" models - most of the industry is, in fact. There are many more people designing for normal sized women than there used to be. I actually like watching Tyra's ANTM. It shows me what these girls go through to get that "perfect picture." NOT the glamorous life that most people think it is.

Atlas, you can't let your self-esteem be based on your size. There are plenty of clothes out there that look wonderful on a size 14 or 16. I've never seen a size 4 that didn't look sick to me. I would much rather be healthy. I am somewhat overweight right now, but I'd be perfectly content at a 14. That's where I'm healthy.

Just be sure you're healthy. To heck with the size on the label.

I am a big girl and i dealt with alot of self hate for myself . It dident matter how many friends i had or how many bf's i had ( which because of my weight i dated below my standerds) My self outlook was so scwed..Sooo to make up for it i became a lush i thought i will just become easy , yeah that dident help . It just made me feel worse and dirty . So i have been working on accepting myself and realizing God loves me and i should to .. and as RuPaul say " Remember if you cant love yourself How the hell you gonna love someone else , Can i get a amen in here " :)

Being Fat is pretty much like being bald, if you are you know & so does everybody else. 98% of people who obsessed with being thin/fat have deeper issues and the "weight" is just a symptom.

the media is way too unrealistic. they pretend that the normal and correct size to be is size 0, yet the majority of women are no where near that. i wonder how much this attitude contributes to eating disorders. i understand that 'sex sells', but i hate the way that the media make people feel that they are ugly and unworthy if they are not very slim.

i pay no attention to the media though, and look at the person and their hearts rather than what size their dress is.

And what if you're both?
