I will not sign this petition, and would urge others not to sign. The vet's office has contracted with the city to provide a service; that is, to euthanize stray animals for the city. Sad as this is, the fact is, millions of dogs and cats are euthanized every year throughout the US, simply because they have no home. People no longer want the animal, or let their dog and cat have litters, and can't get rid of the babies. They abandon their animals when they move, or when the animal is too much trouble to care for. When all the cages are full, what are the shelters supposed to do? Space is limited, and there are always more animals coming in. The vet clinic is providing humane euthanization after 5 days . . .and 5 days is a long time for shelters. Many places only hold an animal 3 days. Rather than blame the vet's office, do something about the conditions that make this service necessary. Spay and neuter your pets. Adopt your pets from shelters. Educate yourself, and others, about responsible pet ownership, and lifetime commitments to your pets.

I agree with SnowOwl. I myself am highly involved in animal rescue and hate the thought of animals being put down, but did you know, at this time, not counting all the strays not rounded up, or the puppies being born, each person in the US would have to take in 4 animals. So a family of 5 would have to own 20 dogs/cats. This figure does not count the rabbits, birds, reptiles, and other assorted animals that are dumped at rescues and animal shelters everyday.
Anyone who does not agree with what this vet is doing, get up, go to shelter and adopt a dog or cat. Or ask if they have a foster program, or volunteer with a rescue group if you are allergicto help with fundraising. A petition won't stop the killing of all the dogs & cats in the US, but people getting up and actually DOING something about it will.

I agree with you. As much as I HATE that this happens it must. I think it would be better to get people to spay/neuter pets.

I agree. I know how hard it is to find shelter for extra animals, when you just don't have the space. My sister works at the local humane society. My mom just told me a couple of hours ago that one female cat and her offspring can produce 420,000 cats PER YEAR. Let's say there are 20 cats in the humane society. In one year, the society would have 8,400,000 felines to deal with. You HAVE to put some of them down.

I agree, its better that they are put down atleast this way they arent suffering from lack of food or care.
