  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

my 14 year old daughter is sick - she has been since Sunday and tonight her temp went to 105.
I took her to the dr yesterday but the reg dr is out of town and the sub lady dr said it did not sound like pneumonia and she gave amoxicillin.
The on call dr who I spoke to on the phone tonight asked a bunch of questions and she said it sounds more like flu, and I can give her 3 ibuprofin at a time and take her back to the dr Fri. if she is still running fever then.
Her temp is down now to 101 which is better.

And, I just started a part time job last week so I am having to leave her at home alone all day from 9-2 sick.
I do give her a cooler full of cold drinks and jello and applesauce and things and she is 14 so she can take care of herself, but I hate leaving her alone when she feels rotten - although a lot of the time she is just sleeping anyway so it does not matter - but I have guilt - it is a Jewish thing.

So, please pray that she will be better soon.
Thank you.

how is your daughter doing christianmom?
Thank you for asking and thank you all for your prayers.

She had a temp of only 100 when she got up this morning and I had her take Advil since I was at work. Then this evening it was 100.7 so I gave her Advil and it still went up to 101.7. :sigh: But that is a lot lower than last night's 105. And she went most of the day with no fever although she still slept most of the time and has her cough still.

May she be blessed with refuah shleima.
I echo this.

:sigh: I took my daughter back to the dr this morning because she is still sick and they took blood and should get the results this afternoon to see if they can find what is wrong.
And now - it is finally cold and our heaters won't come on. We got a new a/c and heater unit this summer and the a/c went out a month and a half ago or so and my husband thinks maybe they shut off the pilot lights to both units when they were working on them then - I don't know but it is cold here and I called and they will be here sometime today - luckily it is not too cold - it is 57 outside now and should hit 70 and it is in the 60s here in the house but I don't think that is good for my sick daughter. :sigh:

Well, the heater guy was here and the new unit just needed the gas turned on to it so apparantly they had turned it off when they were here doing their repair a month and a half ago. But the other unit which heats the upstairs he says needs a new circuit board and he charged me $145 just to tell me that and not even fix it.
I thought there would be no charge because I thought they had done something when they were out repairing the downstairs unit because both heaters had worked before that.
It will be $450 for them to fix it if we have them do it.
My husband asked if the $145 applies to that amount and this guy is new and does not know but I am guessing it won't.

So, I called the people who put in the other unit - the upstairs one - 3 years ago- the one that is apparantly broken and they said parts are covered but labor is not and they are coming out tomorrow for $56 to diagnose and service the unit and give an estimate on what they will charge to fix it.

So, we have heat downstairs now, but not upstairs where the children sleep. At least heat rises and it will be warmer for the next few days. But, my daughter is still sick.
The first guy said he could not have the part until Monday to fix it and I don't know if these other people will have the part on hand.

We got the results of my daughter's bloodwork and she has a virus.
It is not mono, not strep or pneumonia - just a virus.
So, we are to keep her on the amoxicillin and wait for it to go away.
She has a 103 temp right now. She was ok most of the day, but now that it is evening it is up again. :(

She has missed a week of high school and it was the last week of the 6 weeks and now she will need to do the make up work and get her grades changed once she is well. We got some of her make up work, but not all of it.

keep her immunity up - high fevers like this and prolonged viral (or bacterial) infections can disable the body's defenses and allow a secondary super infection to bloom... the amoxicillin may help prevent that, but give her things to repopulate her gut flora, like acidophious milk and yogurt.... and keep her well hydrated, well rested (don't let her "act" like she's well when her fever is temporarily down or she gets bored), as well nourished as her stomach will allow.... and don't let the doctor's off the hook! if she doesn't start to noticeably improve and stay improved in the next 24-36 hours take her back or get a second opinion ....

Thank you. I am giving her chewable acidophilus with bifidus - that is what it says on the bottle - I have no idea what bifidus is. It is milk free - I got it for my son a few months ago when he had bronchitis and he can't have milk. It says one billion organisms guaranteed on the bottle. hmm. I guess that is supposed to be good.
She has not eaten anything this evening but she drank a lot of gatorade.
The regular dr will be back in town this weekend and will be around on Monday. If she is still sick then we will go see him. He has seen her since she was 11 weeks old and I trust him more than this other dr.

Her temp was 102 last night and 103 this morning. She is still coughing.
I just went out and got some Wellness Formula capsules - it says this about them:
Wellness Formula is the #1-selling vitamin and herbal winter supplement. Wellness is uniquely effective because it goes deep to the root cause of body system imbalances. This Bio-Aligned Formula supports interlocking components of the immune system-mucous membranes, cell-mediated immunity and humoral immunity-and also addresses antioxidant defense, stress response, and the respiratory system. A megapotency of vitamin C, plus echinacea, goldenseal, astragalus, propolis and garlic, have made Wellness Formula a welcome companion in the cold-weather battle.http://www.luckyvitamin.com/021078019619.html#
I gave her one capsule a little bit ago but I just read the bottle and it says to take 6 capsules every 3 hours  .
I don't think she will go for that. I will give her another one later and see how much I can get into her, but I doubt she would take 6 at a time.

 :( Now my 8 year old son has a temp.

I don't feel great either. :sigh:

Well, now that the regular dr is in town, he ordered a chest x-ray and my daughter has pneumonia.
I am glad to know what it is and to be able to treat it.
I just gave her an anti-biotic and hopefully she will be better soon.

But, now, my son is sick. I guess he has the same virus that she had that turned into pneumonia. Please pray that he gets better soon and does not get pneumonia and that no one else in our house gets sick.

The heater repair guy is supposed to be here late this afternoon so hopefully we will have our heater working before it gets cold again on Wed.

Thank you for your prayers.
I realize how lucky I am to live in a time and place where this can be treated with antibiotics and my daughter will get better and I will be able to get the heat fixed and I need to be more grateful to the Lord for caring for us so well instead of being gripey.
