Please pray for our friend

Hi to all of you -

I'm writing to ask you all to pray for a friend of our family. She is in residential treatment in AZ for an eating disorder. (combination of bulimia and anorexia) It's a 2 month program and she'll be coming home right before Christmas. (the 20th)

This young lady is a very good friend of my son. We are friends with her parents as well. Her parents have asked us to ask people to pray for them all, especially their daughter, as they are going out for the family week on this Saturday, December 3rd.

Any advice you can give us about how to be supportive friends would be great too. We're good listeners but have never dealt with this type of problem before and just don't know how someone with this problem thinks. I just don't want to say the wrong thing. We were all so surprised, as she looks very healthy. I hope that doesn't sound silly.

Oh, Lord Jesus,

I lift up this precious girl to you this evening. Lord, thank you for letting her accept treatment. I pray that You would hold her through this hard time of recovery, Lord. Be her strength when she is feeling weak. Let her see herself in the way that You see her, Jesus, as a beautiful, amazing girl.

I pray for your protection over her family as they come to visit her this Saturday. Let their trip be safe, and their visit with their daughter be joyful. We know that You can work miracles, Lord, and I pray that you would work one in her life. In Jesus' name, Amen.

LTR, thank you for sharing your prayer request with us. I will continue to pray...keep us updated!

As for how to be supportive friends in this...there is nothing special or extraordinary that you need to be doing. Just be there for her (and her family) when ever she/they need it. Always be ready to listen. You dont need to have the answer, or the perfect response to everything she says, so dont worry about that. Just let her know that you love her, and care for her. In my own life, that is the biggest thing that I need, eating disorder wise.

Thank you very much for the beautiful prayer and the encouraging post.

It means a lot to me and I know all the prayer will really help her.

My son had one phone call with her and he noticed a good change in her attitude. He will get to talk with her again tomorrow evening we think.

I just can't imagine being away from my family for so long, but I guess she is really getting help where she is.

I'll keep you posted.
