• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I am having an eczema outbreak on my left hand that is driving me crazy. I went to one dermatologist and she gave me some medicine that is making it worse. I called back to the first dermatologist that I went to years ago (she fixed it first time) and I have an appointment on Monday morning first thing. This outbreak is so itchy and painful that I can't concentrate on anything else. Time seems to be owned by my eczema and it's driving up the wall.

Please pray that I find a cure and that it goes away. Please play for peace for this illness and distraction.

Thanks.

I'm sorry. That's so miserable. I've been dealing with that problem for several years now. I have it all over in some places, but it's most visible on my hand.

I'm thinking that it started for me because I am allergic to certain metals, and I got it after wearing a cheap ring. It spread from there and wouldn't go away. I also have a dust allergy that seems to make it worse.

Cortizone may help, but probably not much. Some people find Elidel works but that might have been what the doctor gave you. I keep mine under control with lots and lots of lotion (even if your skin isn't dry, it's soothing). The most important thing, thought, is to leave it alone. It sounds obvious, but it's very difficult when you're out of you mind with the itchiness, or if you're just not thinking about it.

You might notice that it gets really bad in the dry winter. Make sure you wear gloves and keep the lotion handy. Try not to wash your hands any more than is necessary.

If your knuckles ever split (that's gross, but mine used to), a band-aid with Neosporin heals them up remarkably quickly.

To be honest, you may be in a rough ride for it if the trigger is something you can't avoid. After years of dealing with it, I got it to the point where it doesn't look too gross and I don't have any real cracks any more (it used to be so bad that I'd try to hide it with band-aids :-( ). Still, my skin does not look quite normal, and it can be embarrassing.

I don't know if any of that helped, but I hope at least you know that you're not alone. :)
