• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Please pray - again!

Another zingiber post for the night! Please pray for me, because my OCD is giving me a rough time. It has been under reasonable control, but I have come off the stuff I was using. Usually takes 3 days for my OCD to hit - a bit of a shock naturally. It has been 2 and a half days, and I am definitely feeling it. Thanks!

Hi Zingiber,
When I finally weaned off my main OCD medication I had that same experience. It seems there's this period of time where you feel worse again for a bit. It passed with me but if it doesn't with you that might indicate that you weaned off too soon or too fast.
I still use a minimal dose of Buspar for my anxiety and the occasional dose of xanax if I have a really challenging day.
This summer when I'm at my peak of aerobic fitness I'm going to see if I can let go of the Buspar and fly solo. But if I can't I'm certainly not going to feel bad about needing to stay on it. I thank God for how much the medications have assisted me in managing my disorder and if or when I have another bad flare I won't hesitate to use them again.
Hope you're feeling better today.
Mitzi

Thanks you guys. I should have stayed on the treatment - I don't think I was ready to come off. I have had a panic attack today after constant anxiety. Unfortunately, I am still feeling horrible, so I still need your prayers (very much)!

I read some John Bunyan, and that was encouraging, as always. I felt like reading along loudly and passionately, but those around me would have been rather surprised!

Thankyou!

I think I have a form of OCD too. It's not nice, so here's my prayer:

Heavenly Father,
Please, if it is Thy Will, please end or ease the suffering of this person that is due to OCD. Please let Thy Love embrace this person, and not forget that Thou are there through his/her suffering.
Thou know
I pray in the mighty name of Jesus Christ
Amen

So glad to hear this.
Be patient with yourself. Gradual progress and baby steps are fine. The point is to keep trying till you become adept at managing the disorder. I'll admit that I still have those days where my OCD bucks me off the horse - so what - as long as I'm willing to climb back into the saddle I will eventually become very skilled at taming this monster.
You have a great attitude.
Praying for you.
Mitzi
Thankyou - I am grateful! Amen to the the prayer.

Update - better day today, my control is far better, and I am more hopeful. With any luck I can now get on top of it properly again.

Thankyou so much, RuthD. I really do appreciate your prayers; it means a lot, and makes me feel less alone when I'm not doing too well!

Unfortunately I was worse again today. However, I am still on top of the horse, as you put it Mitzi. Nice metaphor! I restarted the treatment today - I was foolish to stop, because it takes about two weeks to kick in (usually), but after only three days or so off it I worsen again. I don't realise how much difference having the treatment makes until I stop it. Quite a shock. It will be a relief to be back on, I think. I'd better save the heroics till I am in a stable period and can cope better!

P.S. Thanks very much for your encouragement, Mitzi. It is really good having here someone like you with lots of experience. I always look forward to your posts!

You're so full of thanks for everyone. You seem nice =) Mitzi, too - she's kind to help you out like this!
Heavenly Father,
I ask that things improve for this person. This person has not been so well today, but still this person is thanking people for helping. Please help this person feel better and happier tomorrow. Let Thy Love embrace this person.
Thou know
I pray in the mighty name of Jesus Christ
Amen
