  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Please help me, I need it.

Are you able to get to a Catholic Church during the week? If so- go and sit before the tabernacle or find out when Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed for Adoration---- go for one hour a week and just sit and talk to Him. Sit and pray for guidance. Sit and listen. Sit and read your Bible. Go to the Source!! HE will direct you-- without a doubt!!

I have been torn to and fro for the past 2 years on whether or not to "go home" from Pentecostalism. Many times have I decided to, but I am a teenager with devoted parents, and frankly I like being Pentecostal. But I love the Catholic Church, I am in such a hard place. I don't know what to do, I am so confused.

And OBOB, please, help me.
I think Shannon and Aaron=Aggie have answered well here.

Also maybe you coudl pick up a copy of Dr Scott Hahn's book "Rome Sweet Home" Dr Hahn is a former Protestant minister, who converted to Catholicism over a long period of time. His story is very interesting and helpful.

I myself am a cradle Catholic. I stopped practicing my faith for several years but came back after reading a lot of books on the faith, on Judaism and after picking up my Bible and reading it everyday for months. I didn't come back to the Church because someone told me to. I just was pulled that way, back to the fold. I think it was the Holy Spirit. It came gradually to me, not a whack on the head, in a dream or by force. I believe that I prayed my first prayers in years and they were answered by the Holy Spirit in a most unique way, but the key is to listen and follow the Spirit.

Praise be God for the path I took. I am now happily married in the Church and feel I am where I was meant to be.

Yeah, Adoration would be glourious, but out of my reaches.
My parents know nothing of this love that I have for the church, and tonight at their church we are having Communion and I don't no what to do. I don't want to take it, but that is deffinite extreme taboo.
In the Pentecostal faith tradition, what is believed by the action of taking Communion? Do you believe Jesus is in the matter presented there? Do you believe it is symbolic? And what happens if you resist taking communion? Are you shunned by your family and church congregation?

I am just curious.

Would it be wrong for me to take it, understanding that it isn't the body of Christ, but as I reminder of what I will experience for real one day.
As a CAtholic I can only answer "yes" to that.... however, I would say that you still are in a position where you must submit to the authority of your parents. Of course I don't understand how communion under any belief system would have any meaning if it were mandatory for all....

Pray to the Holy Spirit for guidnace!

This sounds like a tough dilema and I just wanted to say that I'll pray for you. I'm so sorry that you are in this sort of 'no mans land'. I know the feeling and it doesn't feel good at all, but one thing that I've learned, is that moments like these are when we grow in the Lord. It's difficult now, but later on you will be able to look back and see how this struggle has made you grow more.

(I hope I made sense :) )

1 Corinthians 11

27Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. 28A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup. 29For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself.

Just my take but this scripture is referring to the true body and blood of Christ which is found within the Catholic Church. This is not in reference to a false or symbolic communion; there can be no condemnation by the Church of those outside the Church practicing outside of the Church. We desire that all would come to know the true depth and grace within the true sacraments. Just as we can not hold unbelievers to our beliefs, we can not hold non-Catholics to Catholic doctrine.

I would suggest that the practice of receiving communion in a protestant environment will never again be fulfilling for you. You are no longer under a false supposition that it is a biblical practice. If you pray and find that you can refrain from communion tonight that will probably give your soul the most peace, however if after prayer, you are convicted that it would be dishonoring to your parents and conflictual then receive and let God bring you peace in the situation. God is not a God of chaos and trouble. He has your heart in His hand and He knows that your journey to the Catholic Church will take time. Be at peace. Draw on His mercy and you will attain what you desire, the true Eucharist, in His time.

Pray and we will pray with you. :crossrc:

Charlie, you must know that being on OBOB lengthens your intercessions a great deal. ;)

But there is no greater work than lifting up each other in prayer.

ATShavout, I have taken the liberty of adding your intention to our continuing Prayer thread on OBOB.

...Wait, mandatory communion?

Er.

Wow.

I dunno. I'd probably treat it as the people there treat it; it's a reminder of a real thing. That you might later do the real thing, and they might decide not to, doesn't change the intent of the ceremony. And it's not necessarily a bad ceremony in and of itself...

(Er, not trying to debate here, just trying to offer a suggestion.) (Do I still need these disclaimers?)
