I haven't been here very long but this place is fantastic. Unfortunately I have a problem that I can't seem to control. I love to debate and instead of using this place for fellowship I am only using it to argue. I wish I could change but it is in my nature and I won't change....at least not anytime soon. If a person has a bad habit it is best if they avoid the temptation and I need to leave. It would make sense to walk away for awhile but when I come back I'll always be looking for a fight and I need to stop acting like this. I'm getting old enough to realize my days on earth are limited and I shouldn't be spending this much time arguing so it's time to move on and I won't be able to resist if I still have an active account. Everything is what you make of it and CF could be a wonderful place to fellowship but I am just unable to avoid all the controversies. I wish I wasn't like this. So which one is it? Only pick one. A good debater checks his motives first and leaves his emotions at the door.

I'm sooo sorry. i pray you will reconsider or maybe just take a "break" for a while. There are many supportive, fellowshipping, encouraging places and places where we lift each other up in prayer.

I have seen some of your posts and i have appreciated your input and presence here.

I can appreciate your thinking, Galaxy Hunter. I wonder if some of the following wouldn't ease the contentiousness enough for you to stay here without feeling the way you have.

1. Put every troll and antagonist on ignore.
2. Confine your posting (and reading) to the areas you most enjoy--theology, for example, or the forum for your own denomination, while strictly cutting out the political discussions or whatever most often leads to arguing.
3. Survey the new threads when you come online and do not even click to read any that you can tell, by the titles, are looking for a fight. Pass on to others that seem less likely to be posted by someone with an axe to grind.

One thing that works in CF's favor is that there is a lot of traffic here as compared with other forums, so you might be able to prune your reading and posting and still have plenty enough left for you to work with.

If they deleted the accounts of all of us who debated, would there be anyone left? One rule I've started to follow is to try to stay out of the political debates, though I won't promise I won't make a political statement every now and then. Maybe you should reconsider leaving the site.

one of the reasons we started the political forums was to help keep the rest of CF from being over run by those of us who really do like to...discuss things. People would start a thread about, say "I love my cat!" and 6-7 posts later it would be about welfare or helping/not helping people. So Doc started some forums where we could post about those things and we'd stop scaring people away. I'll admit, I like to...discuss things but I also like that there are a lot of places where people can hang out and have fun without having to...discuss things so much. I guess what I'm saying is: don't throw out the baby with the bath water, there are things you have to share with others and it would be a shame to miss out on being able to do that. You might think about getting some friends who will (quietly) remind you that you're trying to avoid the more...cranky parts of CF and if they see you getting sucked back in they can remind you of this thread.

Thanks for these thoughtful responses. This place was a whirlwind when I started but I took a short break and I see that I haven't been deleted yet. If it happens I'll be at peace with that but if not I just may rethink my strategy in my use of this place and use it for something positive instead of a debate forum. There are so many great uplifting folks here (like you here that responded to this) and I'm sure if I surround myself with the right people and avoid the debate traps I will benefit greatly from the love that will wear off on me. More important than that, I want to help folks who are down and give them encouragement to walk in faith. A lot of people have done that for me in my life and CF looks like a good place to pay back those favors as long as I am strong enough to avoid those tempting mud slinging debates. *hugs*
