  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well for the sims or something like that I guess it would be kinda creepy. But other games I pick female characters all the time. Heck, everybody at my school uses Sueng-Mina in Soul Caliber, just because she's awsome, the same for Nina in Tekken. And in Mario Cart I always use Peach or Toad. And of course, sometimes you have no choice but to use a female in a game, FFX-2 is all female, Metriod has a girl for the main character too.

Then you look at Guild Wars, where 99% of the male players play female characters. Doesn't help that the designers made some of the best armor in the game practically nonexistent and shows tons of skin.

When it comes to online RPGs, it's rather smart to play as a girl. You get so much free stuff and special treatment because the sadder male players believe they may be able to win you, their "dream girl", by giving you lots of money and giving you the spoils of war.

It depends what the game is. When I played Tribes, I ALWAYS played a female character because they had an advantage over the male characters.

The males were big with broad shoulders and broad chests. The females had narrow chests, and while thier chests were thicker (For obvious reasons) they were still narrow. This made the females a smaller target in a firefight. It wasnt much of an advantage but it was something and it did save my skin a number of times, snipers had less to aim at and machine guns had less to hit.

I dont play female characters in games where being one gender provides no tactical advantage. Kills the storyline aspect of it for me :)

I generally play male characters where it doesn't make a difference and both when it does. I've played through morrowind with both male and female characters. Haven't done it yet with the KOTOR games. I have both a male and a female character in Oblivion. My two primary characters in WOW are both male, though, since it doesn't change anything.

My hubby would pick a male charatcer over a female one, but if you have to play as a female character, or it controls better, then he'd be female. I have no problems with that.

However, if he always wanted to play as a girl, I'd think he was mighty weird.

For the bit time I played WoW I chose to be a guy, which actually did cause a bit of a weird moment with another player who was gay and looking for a partner for his charcater. That was odd.

I make no apologies though. So no, I don't think it's weird for guys to play as girls ^^ It's always fun to step into the shoes of the opposite sex from time to time.

I personally enjoy playing female characters for the most part (when it comes to MMOs especially). It is just easier for me to be more immersed in the game when I am playing a character of my own sex. I do have a male character or two in some MMOs or Oblivion, but I have generally stuck to the females.

I don't think it's weird for guys to play female characters. It's just a game. My boyfriend has only had male characters that I know of and I'm sure he would probably say the same I said (in terms of immersion) if you asked him. *shrug*

This thread is hilarious. :D

Nah, it doesn't matter what the gender of your character is in gaming. My bro-in-law always plays female characters in Neverwinter Nights because he thinks the guys "look like they're wearing diapers". lol

It's just a game, your character isn't actually you, so why should it make any difference?

I tend to pick male characters as often as not, just because they tend to have higher hit points.

The hit points in "Oblivion" are the same for males as well as females.

Saying that, I usually'll play a guy if there's an alternative to a certain character class, sometimes you just need a change.
Yeah, there's a lot of games where the hit points are the same, my only point was that sometimes there's an advantage in picking a character of a different gender.

I wish there were more games that had a real difference between male and female. In Arcanum, a male character has +1 strength and -1 constitution while a female has +1 constitution and -1 strength since males are physically stronger than females but females can take pain/illness better.
