  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What retirement? You have to have this thing called "money" to retire, and that is one commodity I've never been blessed with much of.

I'm fortunate these days to be working a job that's a sort-of retirement though. The work isn't hard, and I get to see the country. Problem: I see the country at night, a lot of the time--- when it's dark and nothing much shows up beyond your headlight beams.

My ancestors lived into their 90's, so I figure even if I retire in my late 60's I could live 30 yrs after I retire. So I'm working extra years to maximize my retirement income.

Some talk about moving somewhere, but I don't see myself doing that.

I guess I do have a few bucket list things:
A summer driving thru the Rockies.
Finish hiking the AT.
Take some more workshops.
Have an extra GF to take up my time!
Play some golf.

:)

Dayhiker if you look at my bucket list thread I stated in there that I always wanted to hike the Appalachian Trail when I was physically able to. Which was in my youngers years. I just didn't know how to work things out with my living arrangements and time off of work. I am totally not physically strong enough anymore at my age.

I did manage to hike areas of it but only day trips

I am excited to see that you hiked part of it, may I ask you what parts you did and how long you hiked for?

Guilty...do you have a physical disability that prevents you from doing this now?...otherwise, age shouldn't be a factor...you can always build your strength and endurance back up.

My "retirement" is actually a new career. The first graduation is in sight, and I'm already looking into programs that expand my options. I don't know how God intends to you my new life but I know I am exactly where I belong. I really don't ever see myself retiring...I wouldn't know what to do with myself.

Guilty, I've hiked about 3/4 of the AT. I've hiked all the way from central PA to Monson, ME. South of PA I also have a lot hied but also quite a few gaps and I have the 100 mi wilderness in Maine to hike. Its been a couple of years since I've got any more hiked as I've been so social that I've not been out hiking much. I walk most days at noon time and miss longer walks/hikes. Most of the hiking on the AT were day hikes. About 5 years ago I hiked 10 days straight and got 120 miles hiked on the AT. All day hikers.
I once meet a 71 y/o guy who was thru hiking the AT. So there is always hope!

I will probably be working until Jesus comes but when I am old enough to get SS (if there is any left) I would like to join a roller coaster club and travel to different events they have at amusement parks.

I would also like to take another cruise.

But unless I meet Mr rich that wants me, I think I will be forced to work until eternity comes, and then of course we will work in eternity but hopefully I will have a job there that is perfectly suited for me like being God's photographer or something.

God has a plan for all of us but what do you see yourself doing in your retirement, or if you are already retired are u dong what you had planned?

I took early retirement 5 years ago.

I am doing everything i had hoped to do in this phase of my life and in fact, it has turned out much better than i had anticipated with plenty of time to do a variety of things, ministries, relaxation, etc... The key is balance i find .

Michelle,
As I think about your situation, I think if I were in that situation I'd start to put a lot of thought into finding a room mate to share living expenses with. How can I make this house very livable for two? How can I find a person who I can enjoy living with? How can we help each other yet give each other the freedom each person wants.
I'm lucky to be able to do it with a separate apartment. The last place I live I rented a room from a lady who rented out rooms. She had a very big house, but she rented out 4 rooms in her house from like $460 to $620 depending on the room.

Maybe in the future, but I currently have 3 "roommates" LOL. Two of them are my sons and one is a friend of my sons that just got back from North Dakota and needed a place to stay.
