Hi there, All In the UK
I live in Australia, and am planning on going over to the UK for a bit of a holiday. I have been there once before in the year 2000 for the Soul Survivor mission. Just thought that before i go back over, that it might be cool to get to know some of you that live there. maybe you can suggest some great places to visit..
well i hope to hear from some of you soon...
Oh and by the way when i was over there every one i met was ABSOLUTELY AWESOME you are like the nicest people... and who knows maybe one of you reading this was one of those awesome peoples.... so thanx...
cant wait to come back.

I think everybody will tell you to visit their own places! :)

I am biased but I would encourage you to visit the north-west region. There's a lot of attractions in Liverpool and Manchester, if you are interested in the Beatles then you can visit the Beatles exhibition at the Albert Docks. Manchester is good for shopping and music. If you're a countryside lover then I recommend the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and the Peak District in Derbyshire. Also you should try visiting Sandbach market on a Thursday :)

Lake District seems to be popular with tourists. Dunno if your into sport, but if you are recomend you get yourself to a football game. Someone like Man City, all right class football, cheapish tickets and a nice stadium (unlike Man Utd, Arsenal, Liverpool, who'll be more expensive and harder to get tickets).

Depends how much travelling you want to do when your up here. Cornwalls nice, but its quite a treck from the Lakes if you visit there.

Leeds is well worth a visit, its the classy version of Manchester.

definately would hav to go to a football match (gunna hav to get used to that means soccer, i think AFL wen i hear that :) )...
i really liked the old castles/buildings there, i think i'd like to check out all (well as much as possible) the cool historical stuff... my flatmate borrowed a book from the library for me on Great Britain, and i started readin bit of the history..... WOW soooo much history..
i'm actually plannin on coming over to do some work as well, on a work visa of course. i would like to stay there for as long as possible so i guess thats the best way to do it on a tight budget..
steve i suppose you would be correct sayin that "I think everybody will tell you to visit their own places!" unless you live in a town like mine we usaully bag our town to everyone.

Hope u have a great visit over here, and good luck getting a job! :)

I've just had an australian friend who's moved over here.

Oxford, Cambridge, and Durham are good places to visit for historical sites, to name just a few. But yeah don't worry, there'll be a million books you can buy about good places to visit in Britain!

Hope ya have a great time over here! xx

Oh yeah I forgot Liverpool is the world of classs aint it?

Apprently Cornwall/Devon area offers alot of work for people who are travelling, like on fruit and flower farms, dont know if its true but its worth a look into. It'll take an eternity to get down there, but its well worth the time if you visit.

There's lot to do in London and you could easily take a trip on the train from to see Cambridge or Oxford. Having gone to Cambridge I would recommend Cambridge but Oxford is beautiful too.

If you want beautiful countryside then there's lots. Snowdonia, Peak district, Lake district and the Scottish highlands are all fantastic. I really like the peak district as that's the most local to me and there are some really nice stately homes at Lyme Park and at Chatsworth which have both featured as Pemberley in Pride and Prejudice (The 1995 BBC TV series and 2005 film).

Durham and Northumberland are good too. Lots of historical stuff round there. I've had some good holidays in that area.

aiming at the moment for about end of April, early May, but we all know how plans go sometimes.... lol. just a matter, of applying for the visa gettin some $$$ together bookin a flight and apply for an agency to find me some work.. kinda like the idea of having a job before i even leave the country. wouldnt mind knowing where some churches are close by where i'll be, but dont know where i'll be at the moment...
picnic... yeah i think i hav been to Cambridge wen i was there last time.. do they have like a HUGE market type thing there? the only places i remember that ive been to are the M.E.N (Manchester something??) arena for the Soul Survivor conference. Openshaw, Windsor Castle, some place where they hav a theme park by the shore it has a pirate ship or something there (one of the rides or play ground thing). London (the usual tourist locations) and then out in some town where the Salvation Army Training College is..
must say Windsor Castle was pretty cool, only saw it from the outside but.

Come to Sheffield it's fabulous! There is Meadowhall (shopping mall), lots of greenery and countryside and is a good base to travel from! Also famous for stainless steel and the 'Full Monty' lol.

I want to go to work in Oz (but haven't worked up the courage to go) where do you recommend to go?

It depends to some extent what type of holiday you like, my new crocodile dundee friend (I bet you hate that -- Sorry). No seriously Oxford and I think Cambrige were already mentioned. Bath in the south west is worth a visit if you are staying near by. Check out the Royal Cresent while you are there. Near by South wales is not that much good (were I live) but further west wales is very rural and pretty.

If you really wont to see some "old England" then I would recommend East anglia (East Britain) Suffolk (constable country) is really alluring. Must see Lavenham, a few miles north of Sudbury. A picture postcard typical english village full of chocolate box cottages. Further north is Bressingham steam museum, it features live (smallish) steam engines and one big loco, and wonderful stunning gardens. Here's there link http://www.bressingham.co.uk . I recommend their doughnuts if they still do them.:p I used to go there with my parents every summer when we lived local and can thoroughly recommend it as a first class day out.

Scotland has all ready been mentioned and can recommend that too, especially the highlands.
Have a great trip and enjoy. :)
