11-year-old's rape
swept under rug?
Planned Parenthood removes revealing letter from website

After drawing attention from pro-life groups, Planned Parenthood's San Francisco affiliate removed from its website a purported letter from a girl thanking the abortion provider for helping conceal from her parents a rape that occurred when she was 11.

The American Life League's STOPP International is calling on California Attorney General Bill Lockyer to investigate, asking whether Planned Parenthood is trying to hide evidence of a crime.

"Planned Parenthood acts as if it is exempt from the law," said STOPP International's executive director, Jim Sedlak. "The organization knows it is mandated to report suspected cases of sexual abuse involving minors, yet it seemingly fails to do so."

The letter appeared in the "Shared Stories" section of the Planned Parenthood Golden Gate website.

Neither the letter itself nor Planned Parenthood Golden Gate indicated whether the organization alerted authorities to the reported sexual abuse of an 11-year-old child, STOPP International said.

The letter indicates the girl now is 17.

Sedlak called Planned Parenthood a "dangerous organization," saying "we must ensure that it is held accountable for its actions."

Last month, Californians voted down a measure requiring parents to be notified before a minor has an abortion.

A backer of the proposition, Yes on 73, argued for its passage by pointing to a well-documented survey by Texas-based Life Dynamics revealing virtually all Planned Parenthood affiliates fail to report clear cases of statutory rape to authorities.

The Yes on 73 website site provides some of the audio tapes of a Life Dynamics researcher who telephoned 800 Planned Parenthood and National Abortion Federation facilities nationwide portraying a 13-year-old girl who had been made pregnant by a 22-year-old boyfriend.

The caller told the clinics she wanted an abortion "because she and her boyfriend did not want her parents to find out about the sexual relationship," a summary of the report stated.

Among the findings was that many clinic workers acknowledged the girl's situation was illegal and that they were required by law to report it, but an "overwhelming majority readily agreed" to keep secret the illegal sexual contact.

Life Dynamics said that in 91 percent of its calls, the person reached at the center agreed to conceal the statutory rape.

Girls under age 14 are presumed to be victims of rape, but Planned Parenthood argues compliance with the underage reporting law would breach the doctor-patient confidentiality agreement.

Nevertheless, Life Dynamic President Mark Crutcher insists Planned Parenthood understands the law, noting his group has a tape recording of the abortion provider's top two national attorneys admitting that child-abuse reporting laws override confidentiality requirements in every state.

The Life Dynamics probe has led to a number of legal investigations across the nation. In addition to the Planned Parenthood investigation, the pro-life group brought about the 1999 congressional hearings on the sale of aborted baby parts.

It is sad that these things can be done to children (the taking advantage in the first place whether rape or statutory rape, and the abortion and keeping it from the parents).

Perhaps this can get some sort of investigation going into PP's methods. But authorites/attorney general's etc. seem hesitant to take any action.

WND is the Middle East Newsline of the western world. The PR world loves it because even we need a laugh every now and again. Granted, I'd be surprised if this story were not true as it is right up their alley. WND is like going to Fox News for balanced news on the "War on Christmas"

I know nothing about WND, I was linked to this article by a third party website. However, all they have done is quote and reference research by Pro-life groups who devote all their resources to this, and the Planned Parenthood website itself. So what is wrong with me posting this article, that nobody has proved to me to not be true?

I used to edit/write for a major media congolomerate. WND was a running joke. "This paragraph sounds kind of sketchy, man. Can you show me the sources?" "Sure, I'll forward you the addy for the WND article" ^_^

Here's my favorite WND article ever: http://worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=44503

Something is not, of course, necessarily untrue just because it's posted at WND. But WND stories need to be corroborated by other sources before they can be considered at all credible. Therefore, I'm not sure there's much point in discussing this story unless it can be confirmed by a reliable source or two.

Planned Parenthood charged with covering up sexual abuse

Dec. 16 (CWNews.com) - A California office of Planned Parenthood boasted about covering up the rape of an 11-year-old girl, charges the American Life League (ALL).

ALL's STOPP International project reported this week that a web site operated by Planned Parenthood Golden Gate displayed a note from a young woman, thanking the organization for keeping her parents ignorant about the fact that she had been raped. According to the message, the rape occurred when the young woman was 11; she was assaulted by her 17-year-old boyfriend. Under California law, Planned Parenthood officials would have been legally obliged to inform authorities about such an incident, since it would have qualified as sexual abuse of a minor.

"Planned Parenthood acts as if it is exempt from the law," said Jim Sedlak, the executive director of STOPP International. He argued that California prosecutors should investigate the Golden Gate office to see if Planned Parenthood covered up a crime. The note from the alleged rape victim was removed from the Planned Parenthood web site shortly after pro-life activists called attention to it. However, an archived copy remains available.

Come on. The link in the WND article is to PP itself. The letter from the girl was submitted to their Golden Cafe site. (Interesting that it's "Golden Cafe", isn't it?)

Anyway, just because you don't like the news source, doesn't mean the story isn't true. I'm concerned that some of you probably listen to Air America.

To the OP: this is nothing new. Life Dynamics has indeed been researching this problem for the last few years. PP is clearly in violation of the law, but somehow manages to get around it. Ironically, the Catholic Church which we now know has covered up sexual abuse has not been let off the hook. Just look where that situation has led. PP is doing no less by covering up the rape of young girls who are often brought in for abortions by the perpetrator. By law, anyone who is aware of a rape, statutory or otherwise, must report it. PP has to my knowledge never done so. I think we all know why.:(

Yeah, no kidding. What about the bias of the mainstream media that nobody is pointing out.

Get some Bishops to cover up rapes/molestations, and it's all you hear about on the mainstream media.

Get the liberal/abortionist/contraceptive diabolical organization Planned Parenthood covering up rapes/molestations, and you hear nothing about it.

I was raped at 11, by my 17 year old boyfriend. I chose not to tell my parents because I didn't think their involvement would help, that was the right choice for me. Planned Parethood helped me deal with the aftermath of the rape allowing me to deal and cope as best as I could in my own way. I was 14 when I decided to start having sex, the day I made that choice I made an appointment to get birth control pills. I'm 17 now, I've been with my current boyfriend for about two years. During that time i've been HIV and STD tested four times. Right now I'm sitting in the waiting room while my boyfriend gets the results for his HIV test. We love each other so we're responsible and Planned Parenthood helps us to do that."

Looks like worldnetdaily got it correct then, and the mainstream news sources still don't get it.
Maybe they were sleeping.

Sleeping? Nah...more likely decided to ignore, the lot of them are biased unprofessionals who care not about reporting the truth, but rather pushing their agenda!

You know this is something that came up on another unrelated thread too.

I am guessing that it would be very difficult to get an education in today's universities, and not to also become be a part of that liberal, and in this case, pro-choice(pro-abortion) agenda.
If a reporter wants to get along with his or her fellow reporters, they would do well to just ignore certain kinds of stories.

And they do.

They find all kinds of rationalizations that allow them to keep their blinders on- until their youthful idealism about being objective gradually turns into the cyncism typical for that trade.

Real subtle dig there, Veritas.

I neither listen to Air America nor do I take any corporate US media "news" seriously. Having actually worked in the industry, I can tell you that the whole news media machine is a distaster, although not for the reasons y'all are speculating about in this thread. But the destruction of the US free press is a subject for some other thread.
