  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do you think Pilate was saved...even later? I know that he washed his hands of the situation, but yet seemed troubled. Nonethless. He was still crucified under His ruling whether he washed his hands of the situation or not. Pilate still handed Him over. I have some scripture I will add. What do you think?

Matthew 27:19
While Pilate was sitting on the judge's seat, his wife sent him this message: "Don't have anything to do with that innocent man, for I have suffered a great deal today in a dream because of him."
Matthew 27:23
"Why? What crime has he committed?" asked Pilate. But they shouted all the louder, "Crucify him!"
Matthew 27:24
When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that instead an uproar was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd. "I am innocent of this man's blood," he said. "It is your responsibility!"
Acts 4:27
Indeed Herod and Pontius Pilate met together with the Gentiles and the people of Israel in this city to conspire against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed. (Is this a different Pilate?)

It's the same man.

There's no other mention of him after this - so there is no wat of knowing whether or not he came to faith in Christ

I'd be interested in seeing the Scripture you have in mind, but until shown otherwise I don't think Pilate was saved..

Ksen, I do not have any scripture in mind besides what I provided. That is why I posted the thread. I am curious as to what conclusion everyone else came to. I posted the scripture that I did find b/c that was all I had to go on.

My question was sincere, not rhetorical.

Sorry about that. I read the OP quickly and thought the Scripture you had was part of your signature, not OP.

Based on what you posted, I still don't think Pilate was ever saved.

We would have to know his heart before he died wouldn't we?

Did he fullfill Gods purpose for him? Someone HAD to be Pilate. I don't think WE should judge him too harshly based on what we know. I think more often than we know in the final moments of life people call out to God.

I have always wondered this myself! This is all we have to go on. No mention of his attitude in making these statements. Some believe that he was in a horrible situation; others think that he was just doing his job. As M21 said someone had to be pilate. This was Gods will. I tend to believe that he might have been. I feel it is another one of those questions to add to our list for the day we can get those answers. It is a mystery.

Someone had to be Judas, too.... Judas had a choice to do what he did, but God knew what that choice would be....Was Pilate just as guilty as Judas?

Afterall, washing your hands of a situation does not free one of responsibility. He could have easily said "no" to the whole situation and then someone could have killed Jesus in a different way...isn't that strange to think, what if it had not been on a cross, as we believe and know to be true, but some other way like by a psycho (?) There is something about it being on the cross after he was judged by earthly men that makes it what it is.

Thank you, Jesus. :)

You know what I was just thinking as I read over this thread?

Well, if Pilate was just as guilty as Judas b/c he handed Him over....well, then we are as guilty for His death, too, b/c of sin.....so why was Judas then destined to Hell? He apparently knew what he did or he would not have hanged himself....

I am beginning to confuse myself. :)

 Where in Scripture does it say that Judas was "destined for hell"? Before I saw The Passion of the Christ I'd always assumed that Judas had ended up in Hell, but was forced to rethink that assumption after watching that film.

We cannot know the eternal destination of Pilate or Judas since it is not revealed in Scripture.

I wonder.

He apparently died before Jesus...even if he was not saved, there are people that believe that Jesus went and gave the dead before His own death a second chance....
