  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

When I got pregnant with my daughter I just picked one close by who was covered by our insurance. I did no research at all. For baby number 2 I did a lot more research as I knew what kind of prenatal care I wanted and how I wanted future labor and deliveries to go. This time I am going with a midwife/birthing center as I feel that is the environment best suited for me to achieve the kind of experience I want. I did the research for baby number 2 shortly after I had baby number 1 and long before baby number 2 was planned (which in the end it wasn't :D)

God picked mine for me :D We met when I transferred to the hospital from a planned homebirth, with blood dripping down my legs.... My doctor was so respectful of my desires in regards to my birth, my body (he always asks everytime before he touches me), and engaged in conversation with me about my care, ie he didn't just talk aaround me, or over me, or at me--but with me.

Now that I have been through two births and am pregnant with my third with him as my doc-- I love him because he leaves me alone- and lets me do my thing during birth, doesn't hassle me about the tests I want to forego, when I show up pregnant each time he rejoices with me, will pray with me or my friends in the room while I am giving birth. Al of that, and I have total and complete confidence in his ability as a doctor- should something go wrong.

I figure if you pray about it, God will put you with whoever is right for you! It helps to have some idea what your ideal birth would be like- and seek someone who will suuport that desire. (Though the doctor I have is not known by the nurses at the hospital as being a 'hands off' kind of OB, and were surprised at the relationship we have....so it isn't always apparent--I think prayer is the best answer :) )

My GYN is also an OB. So when I turned 18 I started going to the GYN because my mom and aunt had both went to him. So when I got pregnant I just continued to use them. I actually dont care for the doctor but I really like all the midwives. I never have to see the doctor anyways.

With my first, I went to an OB clinic and saw several different OBs throughout my pregnancy. With my other kids, I picked the OB (or midwife) on purpose. As I went along my wants/needs list got longer and longer so I was weeding out a lot of health care providers. LOL

i picked one after i found out i was pregnant. there are 3 different OBs in my area. 1 is a woman and she freaks out when the slightest thing goes wrong and sends them off to a bigger hospital, another is a man who is a good doctor knowledge wise but is so so hateful and disrespectful to his patients, especially his young ones...so the third one was my doctor. he was great! he knew what he was doing, he was very kind and respectful to me and my husband and made sure he answered my questions well.
