I was fortunate enough to have parents who insisted I begin piano when I was around eight years old. Our deal was that as long as I practiced half an hour a day, I could still play baseball, basketball, or whatever sport was in season. Best deal I ever made. I still use my piano knowledge today, and I picked up several other instruments (guitar, bass, trumpet, percussioin) along the way. I play in my church's praise band (believe me, if you had told me when I was a kid I'd be playing guitar in front of 400 people every week, I would have laughed right at ya), as well as in a CCM band which is a whole lot of fun. Don't get discouraged if you don't learn the piano as quickly as you'd like. Stick with it and work on it a little every day - it'll come. Best of luck.
