  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I took a few photography classes through a local college and really liked them. My pictures improved dramatically, though I had been shooting on my own for a while. I imagine I could have learned a lot from books, but I've read a lot and none of them gave me what I was looking for.

So yeah, if you have the time and money, I'd recommend them.

i'm majoring in photography. i'm a little nervous about it because i hear the professors at my college are really hard on their students. they tell us everything looks bad so we'll get better. good thing i don't take things personally!!

i'd like to know how classes went, if any has taken them too!

I find that I am too close to my photos to see them objectively. It takes me a long time to look at them and see them honestly. Training and feedback from more skilled photographers can help a lot, and you will hopefully get that in class. If you are able to take a scathing attack on your snapshot of Aunt Sally and realize that it is not an attack on you or Aunt Sally, but a means to let you take far more effective photos, then you will do fine.

And, in my experience, all of my instructors were kind, diplomatic, and encouraging. They set specific goals and commented accordingly. I look back on my early work and found some terrible photos, but the instructor only remarked on my exposure, or depth of field, or composition, or whatever it was we were shooting. Now I can see how generous they were being :)

Good luck, and please share some of your assignments with us!
