  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

im in a photography class and we did a project with black and white pictures:

we each took with our cameras a black and white photo and developed in our darkroom, well then our teacher took this spray and sprayed the picture so we could take our prisma colored pencils and colored it. i really want to do that on my own, but i cant find the spray that she used to make that textured kinda feel so we could color it....

does anyone know what im talking about...or what this spray is called??

The spray you seek is called Pre-Color Spray and it is made by a company called Marshalls.

There are other clear sprays made for protecting artwork, which you should spray on after the coloring is done to seal it. But those do not work so well for pre-color because their surface doesn't "grab" the colored pencil very well.

As an added idea, while Prismacolor pencils are the most commonly used for hand coloring, all sorts of other things are used. There are special translucent oil paints(also made by Marshalls), that are designed specially for this purpose. Oil pastel sticks or even good quality crayons can be used too. With either of those, using a Qtip, or a toothpick with a tiny bit of cotton on it, with a little mineral oil or turpintine(very little) will allow you to smooth and blend the colors. Those watercolor pencils work pretty good too.

The suggestion to just use matte surface paper won't work very well unless you are using old style fiber based printing paper. The newew RC(resin coated) papers are to "plastic" even in matte surface, to take the color very well.
