photo contests

How do ya'll do them here? I have some blessing I want to get rid of, but dont know how ya'll go about it here.

I have a couple hundred thousand blessings so I could donate a few thousand to a contest too.

It's been a long time since I organized a contest, but generally, we'd ask for submissions and then run a poll for members to vote on the submissions. I should be reinstated as a mod in a few days (just reapplied) and I'd be happy to run a new contest.

It'd be good if we had a theme for the contest to make the pictures a bit easier to compare.

I think a Macro one would be fun or "hometown" one, something that conveys your town or something

I like the WD contest too but sometimes i dont think it is based on skill or anything like that, it is just sometimes not right

So... what's WD?

There's always going to be controversy over who actually won the contests (though I never saw any bitterness in the CF contests). In particular, it's hard to predict who will win in a public poll because people tell their friends to vote and there are enough people voting that you know quite a few will vote more on coolness than composition. Of course if you pick a couple professional photographers, you get the opposite problem -- people convinced that they should have won if the judges were any good...

In the end, as long as everybody comes to do it for fun, it's no big deal -- especially if we have three winners so there's a good chance that the best photos will get a prize.

Anyway, could you guys pick a theme so I could get this going? Usually I leave 2-3 weeks for submissions so it's always good to get it started fast.

WD is womens discussion

I like macro for a theme, but if someone has other thought i am fine with anything

In a facebook contest each entrant has to grade everyone elses photo and leave feedback and then at the end all the scores and added and the highest ones win....i dont think we can manage that here though.

I just like finding an excuse to organize my photos and to take new pics! lol. That's why I like the photo contests!

The problem with macro, is that not everyone has access to a macro lens... so it's really limiting people. Plus, I would argue that "macro" isn't really a theme... "Flowers" are a theme... macro... well anyway. Now perhaps "macro shots" would be a theme, but like I said, that is really limiting people who do not have macro capability.

IMO it would be better to keep it to general themes that even the most novice photographer can participate in. Personally, the hometown one is a great theme.

Whats the difference between macro and macro shots. Seems to be the same thing to me.

I dont have any macro lenses, but still can get a macro shot.

If that theme sucks go ahead and pick a new one. Im not picky

macro is life size, i think, the size it is in the picture is the size it is in real life
