Just thought I would pass this along to those who may be considering a new dog.
Be careful if you are a homeowner. We just got a letter from our insurance company, whom we have been doing business with for the past 18 years, that our homeowner's policy was being camcelled due to the fact we have a Doberman Pinscher. No thought given to the fact that we have had this breed in our household for the past 17 years without a growl at a person in our house or yard. Breed profiling they call it.
There is a list of dogs that are automatically considered vicious and policies are automatically cancelled or not renewed by some companies. For my company (Kemper) that list includes the following breeds that I know of: Pit Bulls (and the original breed called Staffordshire Terrier), any Pit Bull mix, Rottwielers, German Sheperds, Chows, Dobermans, wolf hybrids.
My wife would sell a kidney to keep her Doberman and we wont be giving the dog up because she is part of the family. Insurance is high though.
