  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

"Good riddance..."

Such is the sad truth for too many people. When the radio stations stopped playing them after "We Need Jesus", Petra, once a big name in Christian rock, slowly slipped out of notice. Disinterest and indifference slowly did them in.

Once upon a time, Petra would come through St. Louis a couple times during a tour, but I'm not sure they've been here in ages - I've never heard them advertised.

For some of us, Petra carried us beyond belief, and inspired us to stand up and to leave the comfort of our pews behind rose-colored stained glass windows. For many, their songs would hit you where you live. They inspired encouraged love for God, and thankful hearts, encouraging us to enter in the counsel of the holy...but not to stay there. Although we're not to be overcome by the magnet of the world, we have been given a sacred trust to beat the system, and take His message back to the street.

The invitation has been given to you. Are you ready, willing, and able? Will you get on your knees and fight like a man? Will you stand in the gap left by Kenaniah and others who have gone before? Do you have strong convictions? Will you run for the prize? Or will you find yourself lost in a last daze, betray Him with Judas kiss, and rather be lost in a mine field, being led astray by the pied piper who appears as an angel of light?

Life as we know it will be a little different now. However, For those of us who are in the right place, we will be set for life.

Hey world, as a parting thought, think twice about where you're headed. Come and join us. If we are believers in deed, we are clean. This is good news. Don't let your heart be hardened.

Sincerely yours,
B. J. H.

God Bless petra for their 33 years of awesome music and ministry...

I gotta agree with this sentiment. Petra was the first christian rock that I heard as kid, and they really sparked my interest in checking out the whole christian rock scene. I've got 22 of their CDs, from the self titled Petra in 74 to the Jekyll & Hyde in 2003. Now that's quite an accomplishment for any group, let alone a christian rock group.

Which Petra is retiring? They changed band members more than they changed clothes.

I liked Petra many. many years ago. I respect the work they did. But it is about time they called it quits.

Resurrection Band called it quits a few years ago and they had much more talent and originality. They're music never got tired or old. Their final CD (Lament) was perhaps their best.

Petra is like a good TV show that went on beyond the prime - they ran out of original material.

I hadn't heard about Petra retiring. I got to meet them a few years back, John Schlitt was very nice. I knew Bob ( the founder) had retired and John had done some solo. Is he still going to solo ? I really hope so. I have listened to them for years.

I'm not familiar with a whole lot of their music, although I have 2 of their CD's. One of my favorite songs is "Take Me In," as sung on the Petra Praise--The Rock Cries Out album. Time seems to collapse when I hear that song.
Believe me, I know what you mean. I listened to them as a teenager
and my son(he's 21 ) grew up on them. He loves them as much as I do. I have so many favorites I couldn't name them all.
