  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I said to Cephas before them all, “If you, though a Jew, live like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how can you compel the Gentiles to live like Jews?” (Galatians 2:14)

Peter was eating with the Gentiles. When some Jews who insisted on circumcision walked in, he backed away from the Gentiles. A man of faith is free of the law of circumcision. But Peter behaved as if he had been under the law. Paul rebuked him.

In this passage I am amazed by Peter’s humility. First of all, he submitted to Paul’s rebuke. Now all Bible readers will know of this incidence, and Peter knows it, too. But he rejoices in it.

What kind of humility is this? Paul said he rejoiced in boasting his weakness. So does Peter. In letting his weakness known to all the readers of the Bible Peter rejoices. Wherever the gospel is proclaimed, his failure will also be proclaimed. But Peter rejoices in it.

Lord,

The humility of your apostles are beyond my understanding. Even in my best humility I cannot fathom the depth of Peter’s humility. Help me learn this humility, Lord. Amen.
