  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Peters Faith
Matthew 14:22-33
And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.
And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain part to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.
But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.
And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, waling on the sea.
And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.
But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.
And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thous, bid me come unto thee on the water.
And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.
But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.
And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore dist thou doubt?
And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.
Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

THE BREAKDOWN:

And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship(the ministry), and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitude away.
And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.
But the ship(the ministry) was now in the midst of the sea(the water/word), tossed with waves(the religious came against it), for the wind was contrary(for it differed from their religious beliefs).
And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea(the water/word), (going forth revealing the true word )
And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea(the water/word)(going forth and revealing the true word), they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit(it is an Angel of the Lord who hath revealed this word), and they cried out for fear.
But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.
And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water(the true word)
And he said, Come.(come unto me in the true word) And when Peter was come down out of the ship(come down out of the ministry), he walked on the water(true word), to go to Jesus.
But when he saw the wind boisterous(the religious coming strongly against him) he was afraid; and beginning to sink(beginning to lose faith), he cried, saying Lord, save me.
And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand(strengthend his faith), and caught him, O thou of little faith, wherefore dist thou doubt?
And when they were come into the ship(when they went in unto the ministry), the wind ceased(the religious ceased to come against them).
Then they that were in the ship(the ministry) came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.
In all the parables there are natural teachings, and also spiritual teachings. The natural types the spiritual, and the spiritual types the natural throughout all God's word.
Notice that Peter was the only one of the disciples that came out of the ministry and walked on the water(the true word of God). The others stayed in the ministry where they felt comfortable. It takes the true word of God to get to Jesus.

Have a blessed day!

Interesting exegesis. Are we supposed to be fearful in the boat, tossed by the waves and wind or are we supposed to have at least the start of faith and try to walk on the water like Peter did? Which activity was more directed towards Christ? One could use your analogy to say that Peter jumped into the midst of the word and initially walked on it, but a weakening faith caused him to sink beneath it. Only Jesus' help allowed him to stand again on top of it; but we do know that Jesus is the word and therefore the water could only be an aspect of that word. In this way maybe the raging water represents mankind's trying to use the word without the help of Jesus. What do you think?

tz620q,

If Jesus Christ has come in your flesh, then by his spirit you will understand Peter's Faith. It is simple.

(everyone has a spirit)

1 John 4:1-3

Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:

And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God.

~If you have trully received his Holy Spirit then you will understand the mysteries of God.

Love,

so if one is acting carnally they will learn about God since He is living inside of him...

no according to scripture ...

one need to abide in one position in Christ.. john 15:5

1 cor 2:9-12 only those who are loving God can learn!
