A saddening view.It really isn't a conscious choice of what we believe or don't believe. Rather, it is a culmination of acquiring and acknowledging information and evidence we deem credible and then letting the chips fall where our individual psyche will bring them to rest.
yes, a closed box is an unhappy box.Realities do sadden some, yes.
Nope, we are all driven and motivated by the nature of our individual psyche. No way around that.
exactly.What closed box?
Do I need to get your approval before making a post?
So our individual psyche determines when our beliefs change. We have no choice in the matter.Nope, we are all driven and motivated by the nature of our individual psyche. No way around that.
So our individual psyche determines when our beliefs change. We have no choice in the matter.
Is this what you're saying?
Our individual psyche is somewhat in the background (somewhat unconscious) in playing a role in how we view and apply meaning to information and evidence we are exposed to. When we accumulate this knowledge, we may appear to have a conscious choice in what we conclude, but much of the work in regards to what we will conclude, has already been filtered through our psyche, which isn't as much of a conscious undertaking. Everyone has their tipping point of changing tightly held beliefs and what the tipping point is, is unique to each person.
Just as, if your favorite color is blue, you can't make a choice today, to make your favorite color red, because you would only be fooling yourself. If you have a favorite team you follow and have your whole life, you can't decide today to change your rooting interests, to that team's arch rival.
Now granted, our individual psyche can change over the course of our lives, based on our life's experiences.
So there is only the appearance of choice. It is ultimately illusory. Our beliefs are formed as the result of how our brains are wired.
Does that about sum it up?

Actually this would make sense, since God has chosen us, we have not chosen God.
Ephesians 1:4
"For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love"
So its interesting that he is correct, but he is just on the complete opposite side of truth.
I'd say we have no choice but to believe something, but we can choose to not assume truth. Atheists assume God does not exist, which is why they are so confused.
You are in no position to determine what I assume, or do not assume. Claiming that you are, just shows your arrogance.
You are claiming to know what I assume, which is arrogant.
But its clear you don't know if God exists or not and you claim you don't believe in God, but you also don't dis-believe in God, yet you live as if God does not exist, so logically you must assume He does not exist. There really is no other option.
