This morning I've what Jesus said on my mind, trying to find why in my heart it feels relevant. Notice as I've recently started reading both Testaments consistently, there's a common theme in the Old Testament related to the New Testament. The people in the Old Testament weren't perfect by the highest standard we'd judge them; but even humanly imperfect they're capable of serving God. By his standard of judgement, he has mercy showing them the error of their judgements and gives them chances to come toward his way of knowing and understanding. He humbles those who accept his will coming to him, and continues doing so. It helps them witness to others who've been humbled and to themselves being humbled; learning and remembering.

Jesus’ disciples reasoned why they’re the greatest; using their own judgement to put themselves above others. He was there and observed how they felt about themselves and others; knowing what was in their heart. That was when he acted to show them their error, brought a little child as an example to them; telling them he who put himself last in his name for the little child accepts him, and accepting him is to accept him who sent him. Jesus was sent by God in his name, the Son of God; who put himself last to serve him by putting others of him first; if they’re in his name, by God, to do the same and follow his lead. Luke 9:46-50

It’s common for us to reason selfishly, thinking there are certain qualities or things that make us superior and them inferior. In the Old Testament this is expressed by the superficiality of the flesh; which is the cause of divisiveness, suffering, and strife. There’s the story of Isaac and Rebekah who wanted a child, and asked God for it to happen. Seems as if they didn’t know and understand what it meant and the purpose. Easily could been enough with each other and God in their lives. Least could say about them is though they wanted in the flesh, there was a need in the spirit; God heard their prayers and answered. As God served them giving a child, they would do the same for him. She conceived twins, feeling something wasn’t right gone to God and he revealed to her the cause of what’s happening and will come of it. What had brought her to him was the struggle inside among brothers of who would be first or last and greatest or least. Genesis 25:21-26

Many examples as we read through the Testaments are about the flesh and the spirit. We’re not to be judgmental and arrogant, but merciful and humble; to put God before ourselves and others the same. Is this the meaning and purpose of it all, everything that’s expected of us in faith? To love God as we would ourselves and to do the same loving others as we would him? Does this fulfill the whole law in spirit?

Any examples/opinions about the above to help answer difficult questions we have exploring as Christians in the spirit?
