Name: Pendai (pronounced ‘Pen-day’)

Gender: Female

Age: Unsure partly, but is very old, born in the age of Morgoth.

Species: Half grey elf and half high elf.

History: Before the evil of Morgoth came about in her land, a wonderfully beautiful elfmaiden of the twilight (or more or less, a grey elf) fell in love with a leader of the high elves. Though their names are forgotten, they had three children who were called (in order from eldest to youngest) Andérion, Anurion and Anuriel. These three siblings came to love each other closer than they loved all else, above even their parents, and often were the two brothers seen teaching their younger sister things of horses and weapons and such. Their hair was dark and their skin fair and their eyes were clear and merry, the color of a warm ocean (sea-green). All was well for nearly an age and the elf children grew to adulthood, ‘till the original dark lord Morgoth’s darkness spread to the forest in wich they dwelled.

Their parents were slain and Anuriel and her brothers were taken and killed. None know for sure how long those brothers lasted, but before Anuriel’s eyes they were finally murdered. She was then taken aside and tortured by horrendous means and ravaged again and again till fire drowned out all other memory of good things and she begged for death. They made her blind with molten flame and stripped her of honor but they would not kill her, and she came to hate Morgoth. Not only for herself but for the thousands she saw him kill. The things that happened to her there marred her mind and spirit to its core, and she will speak these dark happenings to no one. When at last Morgoth was defeated and he released her, she had no will to live and she vomited as she lay burned and broken on the mountainside, crying tears of blood for the murdered lives of all who she once loved.

The wild horses and birds and even the lowly things pitied her, and no insect defiled her body or touched her wounds. The creatures wished that she should not die, so they fetched a healer from a near village that escaped the wrath of Morgoth. These they brought to Anuriel, and they took her and clothed her and healed her hurts and brought her sanity back, and managed also to bring back her sight. Even the scars on her face they lifted so that should she look into a still pond, she should not be reminded so much of her past. Though Anuriel was sane, she suffered of severe depression and became suicidal. Thus, days of perilous debate and many words were spent as the kind villagers slowly coaxed Anurion not to kill herself. Afterward, the evil things of Morgoth she told no one but the healer that salvaged her life, for to him she remained ever grateful. The elfmaiden repaid her debt to that healer by watching over him and his family, even into his old age till he died peacefully in his bed.

After the use of many years and much patience, she was taught to live and to appriciate simple pleasures, though no thing wholly cured the scars on her soul. At least, she ceased to long for death and accepted life for its own sake, even starting to appreciate it. Anuriel forsook her name and chose to begin again under the simple title of ‘Pendai’ wich meant ‘running water’ in the common tongue.

Appearance: Though once she was fair and merry to look upon with hair as black as shadows and eyes as bright as gems, fire burned her skin and hair till she was several times darker (like a dark, permanent tan) and her hair was rendered a deep golden red for Morgoth’s living flame was ever kindled there. Her eyes once clear and bright darkened many shades and have now bits of gold scattered in them from the sparks that they shed onto her face. Though Pendai has gained back the beauty she lost long ago, that beauty is no longer as glittery as it was, being now much more subtle. She does have pointy ears.

Personality: For the most part, Pendai keeps to herself as she wanders abroad, but in the company of others she has the ability to be pleasant. Tends toward mild crankiness and seems generally very hardened. She has not, however, lost her sense of humor, (for all her dismal history) and can even be a bit mischievous; but mind you, this is rare. She is a patient teacher and a solid companion, regardless of her many oddities which continually pop up as one gets to know her better.

Other stuff: Pendai is an excellent hunter and is very fit, though she might seem a bit foreboding at times, the lady can even be friendly. She has not, however, ANY skill when it comes to cooking save for the very barest of survival. Also she dislikes small dogs and rodents, though none are sure why. Being a grey elf, she loves the stars but does not grudge the day. Her favorite drink is golden mead. Something to be noted may be that Pendai Is shockingly stubborn. Though she chooses not to often use the power of wizardry herself, she is fairly learned in the paths of what most call ‘magic’ and can crudely exercise such things if she must. Pendai is also a ‘warrioress’, so calls she herself, though she does not gain pleasure in death, she passionately destroys all who are remains of the work of Morgoth, namely orcs and goblins, etc.

Another note is that Pendai has many relations with people in many places. However, these relations she keeps secret, choosing to work beneath the surface and the gossip of the mob. An example of one such relation is that she has with Faramir of Gondor, the second son of Denethor and the brother of Boromir. ((NOTE: I know that Faramir marries Eowyn. Pendai and Faramir are good FRIENDS, nothing more than that)) They hold brief council together before pivital battles in wich Faramir desires another’s oppinion and on occation, they will even draw swords together.

I have a pic of Pendai that I drew, but I can't figure out how to upload it... So... Pm me if you know how that is done.. thanx.
