When you have mastered Japanese enough then you will be able to acquire contracts to translate (And travel can very well be part of those contracts you learn to write up ). And there are many jobs that with a second language you will be first in line to acquire the position because of your dual language skill. Just keep learning as much as you can about Japanese but remember to learn as much about English as well so you can understand better the words and language structure so as to interpret more skillfully.
And remember to keep clear and concise notes that you can refresh what you learned. Just like a journal except it is for what ever language skills you want to learn. Can be applied to any other activity as well.
