• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Has the girl you are interested in graduated or not? What is your age difference? Is she a legal adult?

If she has graduated and is a legal adult, and your age difference is acceptable, why would you need the youth pastor's permission to date her? Is she also volunteering to serve in the youth ministry?

Also, if these conditions are met, and if she agrees to date you, then I'm not seeing a reasonable objection on the part of her father given the information you have provided. From what you told us, you're a stand-up guy who has volunteered for several years and has not had a habit of taking advantage of anybody, and is a faithful Christian. If all this is true, then those should be working in your favor in her dad's eyes, or any dad's. Especially if he is a pastor.

Yes she has graduated, and she is a legal adult.

I think the age gap is 4 years give or take I don't know when her birthday is. As i mentioned I probably won't act on anything for a few years.

Well I go to a fairly conservative, hierarchical church, and in the past there were some issues with former student/leader relationships. She is not serving in the youth ministry.

I hope you are right, but perhaps I have overstated the 'stand up' reputation of mine.
I fear I may not be in the best light with some of the other pastors. I didn't do anything wrong per se but I didn't engage in the proper conservative, traditional etiquette.. I guess a faux pas if you will. For instance in advocating for certain reforms that I felt were required I supported these reforms quite strongly and openly, questioning any delay in implementing these reforms. (I won't get into the specifics of what sort of reforms they were but they were required under law and are now in the process of implementation).

I guess perhaps I did not show the more senior staff of the church (including some pastors I guess) the proper conservative etiquette.

What issues? How can you avoid them with her if you start dating her soon?

How recent was this? How can you demonstrate the proper etiquette now, with this issue?

Too soon I think. (She just graduated).

It will be a few years. which in time should pass.

Was just last year. The issue has been pretty much implemented and I don't see how they can backtrack on it now.

Why would she be available in a few years?

I'm not saying you should backtrack on it, my main thrust here is to see how you can demonstrate proper etiquette to them now.
