hi, i just became a christian on sunday and i am thinking it would be fun to be a pastor, because all pastors do is just sit around all day and talk to people and they get up in front of church and speak. how would i become a pastor if i think god is wanting me to be a pastor?

Define pastor. Do you mean elder, deacon, teacher, worship leader, or something else?

Um pastors don't just sit around all day and speak on Sundays. They spend the entire week researching and preparing and rehearsing a sermon--think of writing a term paper every week plus speaking it outloud. In addition to that, during the week they meet with church members, alot of them that are suffering from some very overwhelming problems like broken marriages, financial issues, sickness, etc. And as pastor you have to encourage and counsel all these people what they should do---very heavy responsibility. Pastors also will do things such as go visit members that are in the hospital and requesting prayer...you'll also perform wedding/funeral services. Also, you will be working with a church staff and there will be prayer time and meetings spent trying to figure out directions to go with the church, listening to what God's plans are and numerous other not so glamourous things. Pastoring is an exhaustive, detailed, emotionally wrenching, but rewarding job. It is anything but easy though.

Firstly, congratulations on becoming a Christian! I pray that the Lord will bless you richly in the coming days.

I wholeheartedly concur with what has just been said about being a Pastor - it is indeed hard work, but also rewarding

In your particular case, I would suggest that you need to be a Christian for more than a few days before you even begin to think about becoming a Pastor. You need to become involved in a local church and grow in your new-found faith.

Secondly, YOU do not decide to be come a Pastor - It is something the the Lord must lead you into and as you mature in your walk with Him, then his leading weill become more and more clear to you.

Thirdly, you said you "thought it would be fun" to become a Pastor. Well, I'm afraid that is not a good attitude to take. Pastoring is a very serious role in which you will find that you have been entrusted with the spiritual care of many souls - something you will have to give an acount of one day.

Do get involved in a local church and talk to your Minister/Pastor about these things - and seek his help and advice>

My advice? Don't become a Pastor unless you can't possibly avoid the call of God - and certainly not just for fun and an easy life.

bizzle, i'm kinda confused, i am talking about the pastor to get up and speak every sunday. rainbow and eben, i do realize that god wants things to happen, as someone told me on aim. i didn't realize pastors did so much, i feel stupid for asking now

Please don't feel stupid. It was a genuine question and we have tried to give a genuine and helpful answer. This is, however, something that you need to pray about and take advice about from more mature christians.

you should be a pstor if God calls you to it, if it seems like fun--that's probably not a reason to do it, you'll be disappointed quickly. Open your heart to God's call, study the word and seek his will. Get into a discussion setting often with your pastor and tell him/her of your thoughts

Oh, so you mean a teacher? Well some have degrees, some don't. Some are part tim, some aren't. It all depends on what you want to do. Do you truly believe you are called to teach?

Welcome to the Lords Army.

First I would say do a lot of praying. After that, do a lot more.
Being a Pastor is a big role. There is more to it than just stepping up on the pulpit to deliver Gods word.

You will have to spend a lot of time in your prayer closet. Plus not to mention your on personal family life. If you have a family life. You will spend many hours studying the word. Not ot say about phone calls during these study sessions, people needing to talk. All hours of the night.

If this is what God wants you to do, you will know it.

I pray he will give you wisdom and strength.

PS, dont feel stupid. The very same thing happened with me.
