Greetings in Jesus name. I have a friend that is in his 60s and disabled. He lives by himself in an apartment and has no wife or children. He has a caring heart, but sometimes that gets him into trouble.

To make a long story short, he had a careworker that helped him for a few years. But she didn't have a car and have children. Richard (my friend's name) bought her a car. He found out a little later that her driver's license was suspended. But throughout the whole time, he accumulated over $100,000 in debt.

After a few cars later, she has another car that was probably bought from someone else. She went to jail for 9 months because she had an accident with a previous car with no license or insurance. He said that her new car had her window smashed. He keeps saying that she has no choice. She has to continue to break the law of driving unlicensed and uninsured because of her children. I said that we shouldn't enable others to break the law. What does anyone think about this situation?

America is car dependent, and needs affordable or free alternatives for folks who do not drive or do not have the capability to drive, so that is my take on this situation.

However, this does not give anyone the license (pun intended) to sin or break the law, even though she is helping your friend. Maybe, ask the city if there can be a low cost taxi service to bring the caretaker to your friend's house, or ask a church to provide transport for her.

What about public transportation? Does this woman have family? where were her children while in jail? Not much to go by with the information given.

If he got himself into that - - there's more to this than the legal and financial details. That debt and relationship are just a sample of what he can create for himself; if he doesn't do that, it would be something else.

In case she really is using the cars to help her children, and if she now is not drinking while driving . . . trust God to have this work out.
