Thanks!Chocolate Bunny said:I have one and she loves to be out of the cage, but like pgp_protector I have to watch that my fan is off and door closed because her wings aren't clipped. She will sometimes fly and land on my finger if I hold it out across the room and wave it. She is very social and loves any and all attention (also fears nothing; including cats!). But she show favoritism; she bites my brothers hard but never does more than nibble me (she also went on a hunger strike the first time or two I was gone for a few days). A few years back we had several, but they never seemed to care much for humans. But made myself work with this birdie for at least an hour a day (about 30 minutes at a time) doing nothing but chasing her around the cage with my finger. She bite me several times and kept flying away but I just told myself I was more stubborn than she. When she got completely used to sitting on my finger in the cage I let her out in the room and did the same thing. Again, I set an amount of time I would spend and chased her all over the room until she would hop up on my finger. Then I moved to getting her to go in the cage on my finger with the same routine. The first few weeks were a little less than friendly between us, but don't give up, they really can be tamed and love attention.![]()

I have a Parakeet which I really love but man can he be annoying sometimes! This bird will start screaming simply because I'm running water in the sink! lol I guess he's just easily irritated or something. I have owned other Parkaeets in the past though and I can tell you that not all Parakeets are like this. Mine just happens to be particularly high strung.
...iv'e had them, and i hated them, i mean they were cute, but they are so filthy to keep, all they do is ****, and throw seeds all over the place!, ...so finally i just fed them to my cats.growingupinhim said:Hi..any tips on parkeets..Should you let them out of your cage..what about them pooping all over..any firsthand accounts post, please!
Yes, I am talking about Parakeets. Every Parakeet I have ever had screamed. It doesn't scream like a Parrot does though. It's kind of a yaht yaht yaht sound. It's really a weird sound that they make and I don't really know how to explain it but every Parakeet (budgie) I've ever owned makes that sound when angry or excited about something.pgp_protector said:Are you talking Parakeets (Budgies) or Parrots ?
Budgies Dont normally scream (Dont Have The Lung Power), but mine do Churp/sing in the morning a lot, and can get a little noisy if there mad at each other (Normally only during feeding time when they both want to eat at the same time)

I've read that you should cover up any mirrors in the room when you let your parakeet out. Also, don't use any strong cleaners around it.
Another food that I have heard of that is supposed to be better than plain seed is nutriberries. Here is a picture of Lafeber's nutriberries for Parakeets:pgp_protector said:True, NO Strong Cleaners, Fabrese, Teflon Cookware, Air Freshiners, ... Ect
And for the seed throwing , have you tried to switch em to pellets ? (I Use Harrison's Fine http://www.harrisonsbirdfoods.com/ ) Great food, and Much better than a seed diet for the birds.

Most of the time the birds will "throw" the seeds around is because there picking what they want vs what they dont want, and dont get a full balance of what they need. With pellets, they get every thing they need, and is better for them (Read the ingridents on a bag of seed & look at all the chems in it)
Only real prob with it is getting it. Due to there being no preservitives in it, the shelf life is too short for most pet food stores to stock it, but your local avain vet should carry it.
