This analogy might be a little different - but it really works for me.

In previous experience, accepting Jesus, being saved was a one-time event. And only those who were previously chosen could accept this. If you weren't one of the chosen, you could never be accepted by God.

My carpool bud and I have been discussing some of these differences recently and we came up with this analogy.

Accepting Jesus is like accepting a free ticket to Paris. Some people take the ticket, arrive in Paris, but stay in the airport. They are not interested in exploring the city. Yes, they arrived and are in the same city as others who accepted the ticket, but they do not enjoy the benefits of Paris.

Some people accept the ticket, arrive in Paris..maybe look around, but a ticket to another country looks more interesting and they choose to leave.

Others arrive in Paris and are excited about wandering around the city, learning about new places. They might travel in a group (their church) and discover things together. Other times, they explore on their own. And they have a tour book (Bible) to help guide them on their journey.

And then there are some who think they are in Paris, but they are not. They've been told they arrived in Paris, but their tour group keeps them isolated and they do not know their destination is not correct. If they read their tour book, they would realize they are in the wrong place.

There are also people who see the free ticket, but they aren't interested in Paris. They like their current world too much; maybe they haven't read the tour book to know how great Paris can be.

The above might sound simple, but it has helped me understand this new world. Wee have the free will to choose the ticket, or not. And if we do go to Paris, it's also our choice to explore our new environment or stay at the airport.

I do like the Methodist world of "God is Love". He accepts everyone who is willing and wants a relationship with us. I think I might spend some time exploring Paris!
