Beloved one, let us perceive and understand the parable of unjust steward that our Lord related to us. This is what we have heard:
“He ALSO said to His disciples: “There was a certain rich man who had a steward, and an accusation was brought to him that this man was wasting his goods.”
Luke 16:1 NKJV
So, this parable not only our Lord Jesus Christ said to His disciples, but also to others, whom, also our Lord have said this parable, this is what we have heard what is written:
“Then all the tax collectors and the sinners drew near to Him to hear Him. AND the Pharisees and scribes complained, saying, “This Man receives sinners and eats with them.””
Luke 15:1-2 NKJV
So, our Lord also said to the parable all the tax collectors and the sinners drew near to Him to hear Him. And, our Lord also said the parable to the the Pharisees and scribes that complained, saying that Jesus, as this man who receive sinners and eats with them.
Let us hear the parable again:
“He also said to His disciples: “There was a certain rich man who had a steward, and an accusation was brought to him that this man was wasting his goods.”
Luke 16:1 NKJV
Let us remember what our Lord have said :
“Therefore take heed HOW YOU HEAR. For whoever has, to him more will be given; and whoever does not have, even what he seems to have will be taken from him.””
Luke 8:18 NKJV
So, who our Lord said, is a certain rich man who had a steward.
This is what we have heard :
“Let a man so consider us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.”
I Corinthians 4:1 NKJV
Didn’t our Lord said that there was a certain rich man ? Can God also be a man ?
“Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.””
Luke 1:30-33 NKJV
So the Son of the Highest, was conceived in the womb of Mary, and the angel said that He shall be called Jesus.
Beloved one, the certain rich man that was referred in the parable is Jesus, the Son of Man.
Beloved one, Christ not only had a steward. For we heard what apostle Paul have said :
“Let a man so consider us, as servants of Christ and STEWARDS of the mysteries of God.”
I Corinthians 4:1 NKJV
Let us consider what stewards are, before we consider who the steward that was charged with an accusation was brought to him.
This is what we have heard:
“For a bishop must be blameless, as a steward of God, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money,
but hospitable, a lover of what is good, sober-minded, just, holy, self-controlled,
holding fast the faithful word as he has been taught, that he may be able, by sound doctrine, both to exhort and convict those who contradict.”
Titus 1:7-9 NKJV
Likewise, we heard:
“As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.”
I Peter 4:10 NKJV
So we can paraphrase what has been said :
let a man considers us, the Lord’s disciples, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God, who have received gifts, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money,
but hospitable, a lover of what is good, sober-minded, just, holy, self-controlled, holding fast the faithful word as we have been taught, that we may be able, by sound doctrine, both to exhort and convict those who contradict.
But a steward which a certain rich had and with an accusation was brought to this steward that this man was wasting his goods.
So what are His goods wasted that a steward was charged with an accusation ? Have we not heard apostle Peter have said:
“As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.”
I Peter 4:10 NKJV
So a steward, each one has received a gift, minister this gift to one another, a good steward of the manifold grace of God. So the accusation that was brought to a steward that this steward was wasting his goods, though he received a gift, he didn’t minister this gift or the mysteries of God to one another as a good steward of the manifold grace of God but self-willed, quick-tempered, given to wine, violent, greedy for money, and not hospitable, a lover of what is bad, not sober-minded, evil, vile, no self-controlled, didn’t hold fast the faithful word as he has been taught, rather he discouraged and made others guilty by fables of his own device.
So we heard:
“So he called him and said to him, ‘What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your stewardship, for you can no longer be steward.’”
Luke 16:2 NKJV
So Christ called the unjust steward and said to him what is this I hear about you.
How do our Lord hear ?
“His delight is in the fear of the Lord,
And He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes,
Nor decide by the hearing of His ears;
But with righteousness
He shall judge the poor,
And decide with equity for the meek of the earth;
He shall strike the earth with the rod of His mouth,
And with the breath of His lips
He shall slay the wicked.
Righteousness shall be the belt of His loins, And faithfulness the belt of His waist.”
Isaiah 11:3-5 NKJV
So, Christ decide not by the hearing of His ears but with righteousness He shall judge the unjust steward and decide with equity.
Though Christ have heard what is this unrighteousness about the unjust steward, He did say to the steward to give an account of his stewardship, for he can no longer be steward.
So we heard:
““Then the steward said WITHIN HIMSELF , ‘What shall I do? For my master is taking the stewardship away from me. I cannot dig; I am ashamed to beg.
I have resolved what to do, that when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses.’”
Luke 16:3-4 NKJV
How do the rich man perceive what the steward say within himself?
This is what we have heard:
“And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, “Who is this who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?”
But when JESUS perceived their thoughts, He answered and said to them, “Why are you reasoning in your hearts?”
Luke 5:21-22 NKJV
So Christ as the rich man perceived the thought of the unjust steward what the steward said to himself.
Though the unjust steward know that his master is taking the stewardship away from him, he said himself that he cannot dig; he is ashamed to beg. What can’t the unjust steward DIG ? What is the unjust steward ashamed to beg ?
So, the unjust steward can’t dig the mysteries of God and he is ashamed to beg the gift of God.
Though the unjust steward have resolved what to do, that when he is put out of the stewardship, they may receive him into their houses.
Who are THEY may receive the unjust steward into their houses? What are their HOUSES?
We heard the parable:
““So he called every one of his master’s DEBTORS to him, and said to the first, ‘How much do you owe my master?’ And he said, ‘A hundred measures of oil.’ So he said to him, ‘Take your bill, and sit down quickly and write fifty.’
Then he said to another, ‘And how much do you owe?’ So he said, ‘A hundred measures of wheat.’ And he said to him, ‘Take your bill, and write eighty.’”
Luke 16:5-7 NKJV
So THEY who may receive the unjust steward into their houses are the master’s DEBTORS. Their HOUSES are HOUSES of DEBTS.
What are these DEBTORS owe to the unjust steward’s master ? oil and wheat. So the goods that the unjust steward wasted away, we can consider also oil and wheat.
As we have heard apostle Paul taught us:
“These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.”
I Corinthians 2:13 NKJV
So these things Christ also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
So what happened if the unjust steward wasted oil. This is what we have heard :
““And you shall command the children of Israel that they bring you PURE OIL OF PRESSED OLIVES FOR THE LIGHT, to cause the lamp to burn continually.”
Exodus 27:20 NKJV
“In the tabernacle of meeting, outside the veil which is before the Testimony, Aaron and his sons shall tend it from evening until morning before the Lord. It shall be a statute forever to their generations on behalf of the children of Israel.”
Exodus 27:21 NKJV
So the accusation that was brought to the unjust steward was written in Psalm 52:1-7.
How about the wasted wheat ?
This is what we have heard :
“His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather the wheat into His barn; but the chaff He will burn with unquenchable fire.””
Luke 3:17 NKJV
So the unjust steward have not gathered the wheat into His master’s barn but have been said wasting His goods.
So when the word of the kingdom brought much fruit of harvest of wheat, the unjust steward have not gathered into His barn but the unjust steward has caused
the wheat to diminish by gradual dissipation or loss through wantonness or negligence, by injury in enmity and violence and to impair the strength of the wheat to lose in idleness and misery, thus wearing the wheat out.
The wheat is none other than the people who have received the word of the kingdom.
So we heard the parable :
“So the master commended the unjust steward because he had dealt shrewdly. For the sons of this world are more shrewd in their generation than the sons of light.”
Luke 16:8 NKJV
So we heard the master commended the unjust steward for the first debtor for oil and another debtor for wheat, that the unjust steward brought into his master’s barn fifty measures of oil instead of hundred and eighty measure of wheat instead of hundred because the unjust steward had dealt shrewdly.
The way the unjust steward dealt SHREWDLY , is being consider like the sons of this world are more SHREWD in their generation than the sons of light.
Though the unjust steward being commended because he has done SHREWDLY, the unjust steward is not considered as one of the sons of light.
For we heard:
“You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness.”
I Thessalonians 5:5 NKJV
So the unjust steward is considered as one of the sons of night and one of the sons of darkness.
Also, we heard :
““And I say to you, make friends for yourselves by unrighteous mammon, that when you fail, they may receive you into an everlasting home.”
Luke 16:9 NKJV
What did Christ mean when He said, make friends for yourselves by unrighteous mammon, that when you fail, they may receive you into an everlasting home?
What is MAMMON ?
Mammon
a Chaldee or Syriac word meaning "wealth" or "riches" ( Luke 16:9-11 ); also, by personification, the god of riches ( Matthew 6:24 ; Luke 16:9-11 ).
So the unjust steward who make friends for himself by unrighteous riches or wealth, that when he FAILS, they may receive him into an everlasting home.
So when does the unjust steward FAIL, they may receive him into an everlasting home? This is what we have heard:
“My flesh and my heart FAIL; But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
Psalms 73:26 NKJV
The unjust steward whose flesh and heart have failed and acknowledged that God is the strength of his heart and his portion forever, they may receive him into an everlasting home.
But who are THEY, who may receive him into an everlasting home ?
Are THEY not the just stewards who may receive him?
For we heard:
“He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much.”
Luke 16:10 NKJV
So the one who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; is the just steward. And he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much is the unjust steward.
So THEY who may receive him into an everlasting home are the just stewards.
We heard:
“Therefore if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?”
Luke 16:11 NKJV
When we paraphrase,
therefore, if the unjust steward who has not been faithful in the unrighteous riches, who will commit to his trust the true riches. So in the unrighteous riches that unjust steward has not been faithful.
So the just steward who has been found faithful in God, Christ who commit to his trust the true riches, which are not of the earth but of the Heaven.
For we have heard:
“He who comes from above is above all; he who is of the earth is earthly and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all.”
John 3:31 NKJV
For Christ is of the heaven is heavenly and speaks of the heaven. Christ who comes from heaven is above all. So the true riches, Christ said to us, is the true heavenly riches.
We heard the parable :
“And if you have not been faithful in what is another man’s, who will give you what is your own?”
Luke 16:12 NKJV
When we paraphrase, and if the unjust steward has not been faithful in what is Christ’s, who will give him what is his own?
We heard the parable:
““No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.””
Luke 16:13 NKJV
When we paraphrase, no servant can serve two masters; for either the steward will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. A steward cannot serve God and riches.
So the unjust steward try to serve two masters, that is, God and ungodly riches. The unjust steward will hate God and love ungodly riches. For the unjust steward have been serving ungodly riches.
But the just steward have been faithfully serving God. So the just steward will be loyal to God and despise ungodly riches. For the just steward know he cannot serve two masters. So God will commit to the just steward’s trust the true heavenly riches. For God give the just steward what is his own.
So who is the unjust steward?
This is what we have heard after Jesus spoke the parable:
“Now the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, ALSO HEARD all these things, and they derided Him.”
Luke 16:14 NKJV
So the unjust steward are the Pharisees who were the lovers of money. Since it was written Pharisees ALSO heard these things, so there others also heard. This is written:
“Then all the tax collectors and the sinners drew near to Him to HEAR Him.”
Luke 15:1 NKJV
So the unjust steward are the ones who ALSO heard these things are all the tax collectors and the sinners.
What our Lord said to them! This is what we have heard:
“And He said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of God.”
Luke 16:15 NKJV
The Pharisees, all the tax collectors and the sinners are those who justify themselves before men, but God knows their hearts. For what is highly esteemed by the Pharisees, all the tax collectors and the sinners among men is an abomination in the sight of God.
Why our Lord also said :
““The law and the prophets were until John. Since that time the kingdom of God has been preached, and everyone is pressing into it.”
Luke 16:16 NKJV
So the kingdom of God has been preached since the law and the prophets were until John, and everyone is pressing into the kingdom of God.
But we later heard the Lord continued to say:
““Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced from her husband commits adultery.”
Luke 16:18 NKJV
So though everyone is pressing into the kingdom of God, they who divorced the covenant of God marries another commits adultery. So everyone who marries is who is divorced from her husband commit adultery.
For we heard:
“For it is written that Abraham had two sons: the one by a bondwoman, the other by a freewoman.
But he who was of the bondwoman was born according to the flesh, and he of the freewoman through promise,
which things are symbolic. For these are THE TWO COVENANTS: the one from Mount Sinai which gives birth to bondage, which is Hagar—
for this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children—
but the Jerusalem above is free, which is the mother of us all.”
Galatians 4:22-26 NKJV
So everyone who symbolically marries the one from Mount Sinai which gives birth to bondage, which is Hagar.
So everyone who is divorced from her husband commits adultery.
So everyone never divorces his wife, that is, the one from Mount Zion which gives birth to freedom, which is Sarah.
So everyone who never marries another is faithful to her husband, God.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
“His delight is in the fear of the Lord,
And He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes,
Nor decide by the hearing of His ears;
But with righteousness
He shall judge the poor,
And decide with equity for the meek of the earth;
Amen.
