• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hi all. I’ve been struggling with tummy issues for about five years now. This past Christmas, after being to the urgent care where they couldn’t figure out what was wrong with me, I got extremely sick and went to the ER. There I was diagnosed with colitis.
Here were are months later. I’m having terrible back pain, which was a symptom last time. Also tummy problems. (And strep throat too, so I’m just a mess) anyway, the doc said the pain in my back could be symptoms of colitis. But he did prescribe anything for the pain. Or even give me any counsel of any kind as far as the possible colitis was concerned. He only treated the strep. Although...the amoxicillin prescription is the same antibiotic they gave me for the colitis.
But does anyone reading this also have colitis ?(infection of the colon, my bad for not saying that sooner). If so, how do you manage symptoms? (Particularly back pain) How about prevention?

Is it ulcerative colitis or simply infectious? The back or neck pain could be due to acid reflux or gastritis (esophageal reflux)l . In that case your doc's prescription (of the antibiotic) may be sufficient. Flexing and stretching could ease back ache. If its ulcerative (erosion of the stomach or colon lining), that could be a problem. But, since your doc only prescribed Amoxicillin, then its probably just infectious. An over the counter antacid can control the acid reflux and back pain/stiffness. You may want to get your water tested too. I'm not a doctor, just a few observations based on my experience. I've been praying for you "beautyinsteadofashes". God bless :).

I dont know whether its allowed to give you advice on medicine.
There's a traditional medicine for protecting our internal organ such as stomach and colon, its the sago starch from the tree of metronix sago,
its not tapioca flour, its not wheat starch either, its sago starch.

Make a porridge out of the sago starch

And consume it everyday. you can add salt or vegetable/whatever.

It will overcome many kinds of stomach and colon problem and protect other internal organs also from cancer.

Remember it is the SAGO starch, not tapioca starch, not wheat and not other kinds of starch.

Thanks for praying for me. :)
I actually drink bottled water, so I wouldn’t think that would be an issue.
I have no idea if I have infectious or ulcerative colitis. They didn’t tell me in the hospital.
To some extent, being up and moving helps for the simple fact that anyone gets uncomfortable or soar if they don’t move much. But if I move around for more than a minute or two it feels worse. I have determined, both from having a soar back before (as in muscular) and from attempting to treat the pain (as you would for muscular pain) that this is Not muscular. It’s internal. I also have tummy issues that are seeming to coincide with the back pain.
I’m hoping the amoxicillin helps. It’s taking very good care of the strep.

I thank you for sharing. I just don’t think I could eat that.

Yes, the back pain is generally from a knotty stomach and intestine. If there's no blood in the stool or excessive heartburn (loss of appetite or weight), then it may just be infectious (past or current). May not hurt to see a Gastroenterologist (if your doc is only a GP). God bless :).

Hi Beautyinstead,

Pastor and Dr. Henry Wright ( who has a wonderful healing ministry) wrote a great book on the spiritual roots of disease called "A More Excellent Way". I , myself have had all types of bowel problems my whole life and sought all kinds of solutions and GI physicians and treatments to no avail. I've had back pain, ongoing agonizing tummy pain, and many, many cases of strep throat as well as many other health problems all my life but I'm completely healed now.

And understanding the spiritual roots of this problem did help me. I believe that God led me to the enclosed understanding . So heres what Pastor Dr. Wright says on page 153 of that book under our catagory of disease on page 153 :

" As the person disappears into fear and dissappears into the self rejection mode, the body takes on a profile of death" Why? Because the person has been murdered. Spiritually murdered, Those are very strong words aren't they? You say then, " How are they spiritually murdered?" When you deny your existence as God sees you and reject yourself in creation, a spirit of death comes to agree. Numerous diseases are a result of this spiritual dynamic."

I , myself, had been in denial for my entire life that I had people in my life who were dominating controlling and feeding off me in covert ways. I never even realized it because I had had those experiences all my life so I didn't fully recognise it as a problem. It took a while to break free but once I ended those relationships my symtoms went away.

I had also had anxiety my whole life prior to solving this problem. The Bible has another word for anxiety which is fear. If you have lived with these things since birth you may not even know that fear can be one of the root causes. If you have fear , even if it's not conscious, it frequently is related to an unGodly or unhealthy relationship. I honestly belive that if I had not finally payed attention to this problem and corrected it, that it would have killed me in some form of disease. I felt myself dying.

Feel free to message me for any additional information.

God Bless..

How about prevention?
There may be various causes. ...
.
Chronic stress = weakened immune system = body becomes susceptible to viral or bacterial infection, eg strep throat and flu.

Dieting = long periods without food = digestive system gets corroded by the stomach's secretion of hydrochloric acid(= hunger pangs) = ulcers = infection = collitis, peptic ulcer, etc.

Chronic lack of sleep or disrupted sleep = weakened spinal cord/nerves = back pain.
Wrong sleeping position = back pain.
Back injury = back pain.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _

So, as examples, avoid stress, choose lifestyle or work-life properly and dieting by eating more small meals/snacks.
.
.
P S - Birth control pills can cause weight gain due to its hormonal side-effects.

Thanks Long Island. Very interesting.
I do know from my own experience that stress, even from unhealthy relationships of any kind can cause health problems. I left a very abusive relationship three years ago. About a week later several health issues completely vanished. Including acid reflux that had gotten so painful I’d missed work.
Sounds like an intriguing book. I’d be interested in the scripture references.

This is the first I've heard of colitis, but putting all your symptoms together, I'd suggest you get some rest.

I hadn’t heard of it either until I was diagnosed

Went to see my doctor. She explained that the colitis I had before was infectious. I’d taken so many antibiotics for bronchitis. (Two rounds because my lung was “streaky”). And apparently that wiped out the good bacteria in my gut and that’s how I developed infectious colitis. All they had told me in the hospital was that the double round of antibiotics had caused it.
At any rate, I don’t have colitis right now. (Phew) I don’t know as of yet what IS going on. I had an x-ray done so now I await the results.

The strep throat suggests to me you are overworking yourself.
I don’t know about that. But I’m glad strep is easy to treat and doesn’t last long
