Oh I thought he'd said it was a prop, and rubberBack in the 80's that was definitely the case with the older generation. But these days us older generation knows most of it was not only theatrics, but pretty silly overall.
And what happened with the bat is, someone tossed a real bat up on the stage, and Ozzy bit its head off because he thought it was fake. So it was like "ha someone tossed a fake bat up here, okay I'll play along". It's said he had to go though a series of rabies shots afterwards.
He himself said at the last gig that he wasn't going to be around for much longer. Literally hung on to be able to get the farewell done.Quite surprising. He didn't look well, but not like was dying either. Guess he pushed himself for one final hurrah.
The first time I read this, I missed that you said “peeps” and thought idk… what I’ve seen of Wylde (which isn’t much I’ll admit) seems fairly humble and respectful of other guitar players who came before him.Yeah, that's a bummer, I was just watching some clips from that final concert he did
(sad to see him have to sit in a chair through the whole set)
But glad he was at least able to do that final concert when he did.
While I don't believe in a heaven... if there is a "metal heaven", it'd be nice to think he's chilling with Randy Rhodes up there.
Although, I think Jake E Lee was the best guitarist he ever had (Randy Rhodes and Zakk Wylde peeps would get hostile with me for saying that lol)
The one time I stayed to the end of ozzfest, most years I was too sunburnt and concussed after a morning to afternoon session at the second stage to hold on for the headliners, they timed ozzys set perfectly. A full moon was rising over the stage as they played bark at the moon aand it was glorious.I can see that. Bark at the Moon was a great album, and it was my introduction to Ozzy in the 6th grade. I can remember sitting in the gym watching basketball and listening to my friend's Walkman. I kept rewinding it to that opening guitar lick for Bark at the Moon. I was mesmerized and in a world of my own.
Odd that on CF nobody's stumping about him being a Devil Worshiper or saying "SEE HE DIED HE'S NOT RIGHT WITH GOD" the way that I saw other places with Ronnie James Dio.
in most Heavy Metal music's case a lot of it is just theatrics (even the infamous bat was a rubber prop), so good to see that people can separate art from artist.
Music was an escape from the awkward teenage years of bullying and hormones and Ozzy was definitely in rotation for me then.
I have actually, just the name tho. Was that you?My first band in high school played Paranoid.
Ever heard of the Chicago band called Coven?
We are destined to argue about everything.....Although, I think Jake E Lee was the best guitarist he ever had (Randy Rhodes [.........] peeps would get hostile with me for saying that lol)
You're a "team Rhodes" guy from the sounds of it? lolWe are destined to argue about everything.

After the Ozzy show, I saw a video of Nuno talking about how hard Bark at the Moon is to play and how he was worried about upstaging Jake E Lee. It’s kind if nice to see this shift from where things were in the 80’s and 90’s with everybody preening and trying to undermine each other.
He sure was. But Rhodes has an extra level of compositional awareness and ability. You know he double tracked all his solos? You're a "team Rhodes" guy from the sounds of it? lol
Queued it up to the solo, Jake was a pretty stellar "axe-man"
No sir. The only black mass I ever attended was that time I attended a Catholic church in Nigeria.I have actually, just the name tho. Was that you?
What you say is true, but they did play up the evil aspect in the early days. Blue Oyster Cult was sort of intended to be the American Black Sabbath. Now those guys were pure evil, lol. (I don't mean them, but their music.A possible misconception about Black Sabbath and Ozzy is that they promoted evil. There are definitely songs that speak about evil, but they are often more like commentary. When preachers railed against Ozzy in the 80s it showed their ignorance, and when Ozzy replied that he was a Christian, he was being sincere. Some of his (Sabbath's) music had explicitly Christian lyrics, e.g., After Forever, which is a positive take on faith in Christ. That's not to say Sabbath or Ozzy were "Christian" bands, lol, but they weren't pure evil, either.
I saw Sabbath in DC for their last tour and was so pumped that they played it.

Well I was talking about the early days. First three or four albums.Yeah, it's hard to put a good spin on Burning for You.
