I too love owls !!! My favourite out of the ones I have actually seen are Great Greys (that's when I realized how much I loved owls, I stood there and stared at them while they just stared right back at me, almost felt connected somehow). I would love to see a Snowy Owl (again as un orginial as it may sound) and a Great Horned. I also saw a picture of a really cute looking owl with ears, but I can't seem to remember the name of it (wasn't great horned). :p

Love all types of owl. Not know science names but feel connected to barn owl and snow owl...

Owls have close connection with Native American Culture.

Love those owls too as you can see in my character above. :) We were out spotting birds near Tucson a few years ago and I saw a dead barn owl which must have just fallen from the skies. Not a mark on this bird...I got a chance for a really up close look. Such a beauty with such a plain name as "barn owl." It was surely far from a barn out there. Also saw a Great Horned and got to touch it when I went to a Wildlife Conference and the speaker brought in a domesticated owl. Saw Snowy Owls in Alaska but not up too close.

As for the close connection to Native American Culture...that is for sure especially in Alaska and Arizona.

A book I really loved which has to do with Native Americans in Canada..is I Heard the Owl Call My Name by Margaret Craven. It is fiction, but does explain the particular reverence they have to the owl. Awesome, but sad, story! :sigh:

One of my grandmas has a big thing about owls-- she has gobs of 'em all over the house. :) (Lil owl statuettes and so forth...)

I also have a collection of bird figurines and other bird stuff which includes a few owls. Fun! Grandmas seem to be great collectors...well, it gives my grandkids something to get me for presents for special occasions.

I love owls! We have about seven that live in my near by woods. I hear them calling to eat other every night. It's so magical. I don't really have a favorite. I like them all so much!
I found a nest one night while I was out hiking, and I got to see some lil babies. Awesome creation, I thank God for them every night. :)
