Ovulating

Probably the couple of days before you ovulate (it's what I read in my NFP book)...

Apparently it's because the egg only lives for 24 hours once you've ovulated, so therefore the little swimmers need to be there waiting for it by the time you ovulate...they can live for up to 5 days around the time of ovulation because the mucous that shows up around that time is especially designed to keep the little guys alive for longer than usual to give them time to swim all the way up your uterus and be waiting ready in the fallopian tubes by the time you ovulate, so that they reach the egg before it dies.

Make sense??? That's what my NFP book told us anyway.

Also, try going back to the Bible for information...in the OT, women were not allowed to have sex for 7 days when they got their period, and then for seven days afterwards...the first day they were allowed to have sex was day 14 of their cycle...right at the time which was best for conception...

have you ever wondered why Lot's daughters slept with him and were pregnant after one time. Tamar slept with Judah (her father in law) and was pregnant after one time. I guess because they waited until their period finished, then another seven days, then did the deed...they all knew when the right time was for the best chances of conception. And in the OT childbearing was such a big thing, and God said to wait til day 14, so I guess He did that because that's the best time for getting pregnant.

Whic makes sense when you look at the scientific data and the NFP books and stuff which tell you to have sex a couple days before you ovulate and most people will ovulate around day 15 or 16 if they have an average length cycle...

Lol, it seems yet again that research backs up what the Bible says...

You can get pregnant at any time during your cycle, even during your period though this is very rare. And not all women have regular 28 day cycles, in that case the 14 day rule wouldn't apply, it certainly wouldn't apply to me, my cycle wanders all over the place. If I had waited until day 14 I would have had trouble concieving methinks.

I'm in the 'if you want to get pregnant have lots of sex all the time' camp unless you know your own personal cycle then have more sex during the time you know you are most fertile, and let your husband recover his ammo during the other times.

Since you've said your period is not consistant, I would assume you don't know when you ovulate for sure so I would suggest having sex every other day until the day you get another period.... Bonus: your hubby will like this

Which is, of course, perfectly okay.... and pleasing for everyone.... ... but from a strictly trying to conceive standpoint, not the best idea. It leads to sperm depletion. But if you're happy-- don't let me stop you, heehee.

When you are ovulating... do you have sex just on the 2 or 3 main days or do you try on the days around them as well?

Your husband's sperm count and quality will affect how often you need to have sex to get pregnant. If he has a normal sperm count and quality, you can have sex every day you are fertile. I think it depends on the guy. We aren't too worried about sperm depletion at this point in time. If it takes us awhile to conceive then we might be

Right, I knew what you meant! , but different men produce different amounts of sperm so it really depends on the individual man and how much he himself produces.

Right, I hear ya. I don't even think we're going to chart at this point, just keep track of when the first day of my period was.... it feels like a chore, and I just figure it'll happen when its meant to happen....

Ovulation depends on the woman, every woman is different. Many women who think they are being careful, aka not having sex day 12-16 get pregnant. Not every woman has a 28 day cycle not every woman ovulates on day 14 or only on day 14.

I get good CM immediately after AF, so we're pretty much doing form then until... we're too tired!

Depends on which gender you want. If you're not fussed. As much as possible. If you want a girl.... Stop 3 days before ovulation. If you want a boy.... As close to ovulation day as you can.
